Total Time = 2h 29m 3s
Overall Rank = 68/292
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 9/37
Pre-race routine:

PB&J Sandwich 1.5 hour before start, hydrated. Set up transition - tried NO SOCKS this race. Transition area set up 4 rows from bike/run exit in center racks.
Event warmup:

Jogged 1/2 mile chasing Ryan to see the first stages of his sprint tri, then biked their 4-mile loop. Had to hurry to the swim and made it to the start line 2 minutes before the gun! Should have allowed more time - I was rushed, but ready.
Swim
  • 27m 50s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started on the outside, which kept me away from traffic and in clear water. Sighted very well. Turned the first bouy in good time. Started fading in middle of second leg, then was able to pick it back up for the home stretch.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get back in the pool - UOP Closing has had a big negative impact.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Put shoes ON in transition, and just started ratchet straps. Tightened straps while on the bike. MUCH BETTER than Angels Camp. Suit came off much better using PAM than Body Glide. Felt pretty fast in and out of transition. Good call on no socks - much faster!
What would you do differently?:

Need to purchase Tri shoes!
Bike
  • 1h 13m 51s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode the hills sitting and was able to close gaps even against those that were standing. Held my own on the downhill and flats. Still not as strong as I need to be, and was pushing cramps in my quads, hamstrings, and butt.
What would you do differently?:

More training, harder push. I need to get more out of the bike. I averaged 20 MPH, need to get it closer to 22-24.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Good bike-run transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 44m 52s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Took a drink bottle with me on the run. EXCELLENT CHOICE! Allowed me to stay well hydrated without lingering at aid stations. Took water at aid stations and used it for cooling off. Finished very strong but was fighting quad cramps starting at about mile 2 (felt like the last 6.2 of a marathon which was an excellent advantage since I know how to handle that!) so I maintained a moderate pace.
What would you do differently?:

Conditioning - would have liked to have run it a little faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, took a COLD SHOWER to cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Conditioning and training. I've got to find time with everything else going on for myself!

Event comments:

Good venue, fun race director/announcer, excellent volunteers! Looking forward tot he rest of the series.
