Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast and got to sleep in. That was nice. Drove over late again and got my number and a spot near the back of Transition. Didn't really care were I was, just glad to be warm. Met up with Cathy, saw Richard and Lilia and some other friends. I went with the MTN bike. I really wish I had a Cyclocross bike or a road bike with knobbies.
Event warmup:

Quick run and to the race meeting.

Comments:

OMG! That was so damn hard. I ran with my helmet on. I am glad I have been running in the snow this week. So You start out on the road which is ok just a bit snow packed. Then you head into the snow which was supposed to be packed down by the RD's snowshoes the day before. NOT!! I fell through the snow up to my knees 2 times. Had to catch myself with my hands several times. Had to high step march several times. The run trail went through marsh land(in the summer) that just sucked, it was pure powder. Needless to say that is the slowest 1.5 miles I have ever run in a race. It was really pretty damn fun after it was over! HEEHEE. I was 4th in my wave here and was not passed nor did I pass anyone.
What would you do differently?:

Bring snow shoes!

Comments:

Just got on my bike and left. I rode with my tennis shoes and helmet on the run since I would be running again. I caught a guy here that was putting on cycling shoes. He was on a cross bike and caught me shortly after that.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

This is 2 bike rides together so I will put it in 2 segments.
1st bike ride: Off for the 4 mile ride to T2. Rode smooth but was passed by 2 guys on cyclocross bikes. They were flying. I should have been too. Oh well got to T2 and passed the guy in front of me again. I almost fell here. I turned into transition and there was a big bump. So I go over it and I am on my way down, I got my foot out of teh cages and made the save. The dude in the transition area was like, "nice save" Yeah, it would have been a broken collar bone! SO I get off and onto the run. SEE run 2 for this piece.

Ride Number 2 So I come into T2 and people are going every which way. Most the wrong way. So I hop on my bike and away I go. Then I see 3 guys running up the bike exit. Hey that is not where you are supposed to come in. I yell at them. Needless to say they just picked up 2 minutes on me. Oh well the teenager didn't have a clue. SO I powere away ahead of the cyclocross guy again, and here he comes again stormin by. I pick up some time on the guy in front of me and come within 3 bike lengths. We go down the big hill and I am still wtih him. I know the guy he is a friend of mine. I say, I got him. I wait a bit until the turn around and bang he goes. I cannot catch him. However I catch him at T3, yes we had to get off the bikes and run 50 yards to teh finish. I see him and he is hoobleing. So I pick it up and finish right next to him.. We end with the same time. Cool. I felt sluggish on both rides. I felt like I was riding in mud. I have not ridden my MTN bike since the summer.
What would you do differently?:

Borrow a cross bike. I would have been much faster. Not run 13 miles the day before.

Comments:

This had to be short. I was not uder 7 minute miles. I felt pretty good here and closed the gap on teh 2 guys ahead of me. I just cruised.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder. HR average was 154.
Post race
Warm down:

Short jog and bike and some walking. Ate some muffins and drank some hot chocolate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run I had the day before. 13 miles. Riding a MTN bike.

Event comments:

This race was not nearly as organized as RACING UNDERGROUD usually is. The volunteers really messed up T2 and the run and bike transitions for some. Other than that it was a blast to run such a challenging course. Good to see CAthy, Richard, Ben and Lilia.
