Comments:

I ran well. I had wanted to test myself today. I think I'm ready to go under 18 minutes in a 5K in dry weather. Today was not the day to PR but I was impressed with my time. my first mile was 6:04 and I averaged around 6:20 per mile. Considering the course conditions, I am very happy with today's race.
What would you do differently?:

USE either track spikes or some sort of rubber shoe device for traction.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran a 2 mile warm down with Lilia. Ate 2 slices of pizza and had a Red Bull at the awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Only the snow and ice. I redlined this race the whole way...

Event comments:

Well a great way to start the week. I'll just treat this race as a speedwork session. Last year I finished in 18:37 minute range and 19th place overall (2nd age group)... This year 7th overall and 2nd in my age group again!

One of the guys I see racing a lot is this young guy who always beats me in these short races... Today he hung onto my heel for the first mile and a half and then I saw a short dry patch and surged... I ended up beating him by a good 30 seconds. That felt good. I almost cought this other guy on his team too. So overall, I really hung tough under poor conditions.

Performance: Good
I don't know if my HR monitor is telling me the truth or not... but my average HR was 182... which is probably my max... based on age, my Max HR is around 178, but I regularly go higher. However a 182 HR Avg. seems really high. I will say it felt like that, but I usually race at around 158-168 bpm.
Course: Rolling roads 95% covered in snow, ice and slush... very slippery and difficult to run in.
