Swim
Comments: Overall a good swim for me. It was a little crowded the first 100 yards but then it started to open up. I was able to sight well since the buoys were on my left. Out of the water was around 29:23. When I pulled my T1 top off running up the beach I lost my goggles somewhere along the way. This was 4:27 Faster than my swim last year. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Bad T1 transition again for me. I can't seem to get my wetsuit off my lower legs and feet fast. I put a bunch of body glide inside and out this time but it didn't help. What would you do differently?: I'm not sure. I'm considering cutting 4" off the bottom of the legs of my wetsuit. I'll check with DeSoto first to see what they think. Bike
Comments: I felt like I got off to a slow start going out of the reservoir. Going up Old Stage I felt like I ran out of gas. I was only going like 5-6 mp going up and struggled a bit. As soon as that was behind me I felt like I kept a good pace the rest of the way in. Bike was only :38 Faster than last year which was a little disappointing. What would you do differently?: Don't know. I felt like I've put in more time on the bike but didn't reap the benefits for this race. Transition 2
Comments: This was a good transition for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Here is where my race really fell apart. During the first half mile my Achilles was feeling pretty sore but then it loosened up and it didn't bother me the rest of the run. I was really hot the whole run and felt a little sick from the heat. I kept dumping water over my head at each aid station but it didn't seem to help. I kept trying to increase my turnover but it wouldn't last for more than a few strides. I couldn't keep my legs moving. I hit the turnaround at close to 25:00 minutes and couldn't believe how slow I was running. Coming into the last 1/4 mile another guy passed me and I looked down and he had a 42 on his calf and I decided I wasn't going to let him beat me so I tucked in behind him and waited until right before the turn to the finish and then sprinted the last 30 yards to beat him. A small victory. This was the slowest 10k EVER for me including the last two years at the Peak. Last year I ran it 4:34 faster and was hoping to beat that time. What would you do differently?: Turn down the heat so I could run faster. I'm really not sure why this was such a terrible run for me other than the heat, but it was hot last year too. I don't think I was dehydrated but I may have been. Post race
Warm down: Just got into some shade and drank a ton of water and ate. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat Event comments: This is a fun race and I plan to do it again. Last updated: 2007-01-08 12:00 AM

Ate a couple of whole wheat waffles with peanut butter and a banana.
Didn't really get a chance to warm up much. By the time I set up my transition spot and then waited in line for the bathroom it was time to get out of the TA. I did swim a little right before my wave went off.
