Pre-race routine:

Woke up 4:45 got everything ready and went and had breakfast with Lobo and my sister-in-law. Our hotel had a great breakfast for all the runner's slong with shuttle serive to the start line. If I would've known it was going to be this cold in Phoenix I would have brought some of my cold running gear, but thanks to Target I was able to get a C9 pullover that saved the day!
Event warmup:

Not much of one, but trying to use the bathroom might be considered one with the amount of people waiting. Lined up in the corral and forgot to do my Hammer gel util after the gun went off. Told Lobo "let's have fun today" and we're out of there.

Comments:

This was my second marathon but my first with this amount of people. I really enjoyed the bands and the amount of people, because before I knew it I was 20k into it. It was crazy to see the amount of clothing people were shedding:) My nutrition seemed to be pretty good, but I miss calculated one gel. So, luckily they were handing them out at mile 20. I ended up doing a gel every 45 minutes, except the last 6 miles I did one at mile 20 and then mile 23. Lobo and I were staying with the 4 hour pacer but they were doing 8:30 minute miles. I ended up passing the pacer when they started varying between 8:30 to 9:30 min miles. I didn't understand what was going on, so I continued with my plan for 4 hours. I started with the calculations to finish under 4 hours and marched on auto-pilot. My legs really started to hurt and feel heavy on mile 24, but I knew I was almost done and just kept going. The crowd was amazing, but the people running around me those last couple of miles really gave me incentive to finish hard. Some of the shirts and reasons for them running was amazing (TnT...). All I could do was think that here I am running a marathon in great health and have nothing to complain about then I see a woman with a sign with pictures of her saying thank you to all the Team in Training people because the money they raised helped save her life. Now, that gave me the energy to go pretty much all out the last mile! I crossed the finish line and reached my goal to finish under 4 hours.
What would you do differently?:

I would've broke in some new shoes for the race instead of hoping my older shoes had some more go in them. Planned my nutrition a little better. Besides that I thought it went pretty well.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to walk again. I couldn't focus on anything for about 5 minutes, but my buddy helped me out and I started to warm up and recover. Lobo and my sister-in-law finshed and everyone was estatic that we all finished.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Having better running genes. Really, I can't of anything else except more training.

Event comments:

This was a very fun race that I could see doing again some day, maybe when it's a little warmer.
