Swim
Comments: I started off with the wave, and we headed into the waves. My sighting was awful, and I think I swam an extra hundred yards during the first 2oo yards or so. I had to stop and do breaststroke to figure out where I was. It got crowded around the first bouy, so I did breaststroke around the bouy and took a wide berth into the long straightaway. I got into a rythm, and the waves weren't affecting my breathing during this leg, but about halfway through, I got kicked in the head and my goggles came off. It took me 15-20 seconds to find my goggles and get them back on, and I swam uneventfully to the second bouy. Heading into the dock, I did ok, but I swallowed more water. When I reached the dock, there was a backup at the first ladder, so I moved on to the second, and had to wait for another fat guy to slowly climb up the ladder. then I ran to the timing mat. Two notes....First, the guy that kicked me in the head stopped and made sure I was ok, and not unconscious and drowning, and another guy helped me get my zipper undone while we were running. A final note about this swim. I think the conditions were very tough out there, and although I was not intimidated by the conditions or the crowd, I think the conditions cost me an easy 4 minutes on this swim. What would you do differently?: Well I wouldn't drink water while swimming, because it is not wise. Transition 1
Comments: I jogged the long distance to my rack, which was in an excellent spot. Then I sat down and put on my socks and bike shoes. Put my helmet on and my gloves, not really rushing. then I took a slug of Hammer Gel, grabbed my bike and went out to start pedalling. You probably get the idea that I wasn't really rushing through this. What would you do differently?: I think it is now time to concentrate on saving a minute or so in my transitions. I have three tri's under my belt, and I think I am ready to at least consider the transitions a part of my race. Bike
Comments: I was still nervous about biking after Azelea, but I think I was just having an off day. I rode most of the bike leg on the big ring. I rode in the aero position, except for the corners. I still need to practice that more. About a third of the way into the first lap, I was passed by some hot pace booty, so I started enjoying the scene. But then my eyes dropped to her legs, and I saw a "17" on the right calf. Maybe worth going to jail over, but not me, so I passed her and left her behind. The bike course was very crowded, and I passed many and was passed by many on the first lap. The second lap was even more crowded, and I passed many more, and I was only passed maybe once if at all. Overall, it was a good bike ride with almost a 19.5 average pace. I am really going to shoot for 20+ in the near future. Back to that TITS thing. What would you do differently?: I didn't leave much on the bike course, but I know I have faster times in me. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing special here. I didn't push it. What would you do differently?: See comments above for T1. Run
Comments: I think my running can be considered trodding. I held a decent pace for me, but it always seems like I am going very slow, since everyone passes me like I am doing my own clutzy version of the moonwalk. However, my run time wasa minute and a half faster than Azelea and 2 1/2 minutes faster than Riverwood. In fact, I have never clocked a 5k under 29, although if I were to race one, I am sure I could do better. The highlight of the run was passing CaptanTony and EllasDad on the course. Of course, they were on the way back in while I was still going out. I couldn't even tag onto any pace booty, because it was all moving too fast for me to grab onto. What would you do differently?: One of these days, I need to start running faster. I also have to not kill myself on the bike so I can run faster. Post race
Warm down: I walked around, met up with some BTers and just relaxed. It was very enjoyable hanging around for the couple of hours until we could get our cars out of the lot. I apologize for not sticking around longer, but I had to drive home before the real tiredness really kicked in. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am improving with each race I do, so although I could be a little faster, I don't want to worry about my holdbacks, only my improvements. Event comments: I really liked the course. It allowed me to really push myself. Last updated: 2007-01-13 12:00 AM

Well, I woke up at 3:30am and had a bowl of cereal. Finished getting my stuff together and got in the car for the 108 mile jaunt to the race.
After I got to the race site, I ran into a bunch of folks I knew, which is pretty cool, after my first triathlon where I knew nobody. I chatted with EllasDad about his continuing buzz from a wedding the night before and how he might not do too well.
Then I looked around and met CaptanTony and The Goddess, which was very cool, because I have been in Doug's mentor group and communicating with him electronically since before Christmas. I think tripeople are very nice, except for the guy who kicked me in the head during the swim, and even he stopped to make sure I was OK.
I did ride two miles to make sure my bike was in riding condition. Then I eventually waded into the water and got acclimated for about 20 minutes prior to the start of my wave.
