Transition 1
Comments: Pretty straightforward transition, though a few people from other events were in transition making running a straight line through the transition a challenge. Bike
Comments: Quite a fast course, a lot of drafting which was quite good at some point to increase the speed. Drafting got a problem during the second lap, at one point there must have been a group of 30 to 40 riders in an arrow formation upto 4 across we slowed things down but managed to pass them by going outside the turnaround cones missing the queues of riders turning around. What would you do differently?: Still having some problems with pedalling on the right side, not sure if the niggle is from swimming and/or running but still causing some problems. Transition 2
Comments: Managed to cut my toe open on some glass so the run was interesting and a little squishy in my shoe. Run
Comments: Run was ok, felt the niggle to start with and didn't really get into any particular rythm for the run. What would you do differently?: Need to sort out the niggle, to make the run easier. Post race
Warm down: Had to go to work for a training course, so finished the run, picked up my bike and headed to the office. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to work on the biking and sort out the niggles. I have the stamina and endurance (built for comfort not speed) but not the speed. Going to work on this with coaching over the next couple of weeks leading up to Xterra in April. Event comments: Took 12 minutes off the time from the same race last year which was really good but only a couple of minutes quicker than the last race at Maratai. Last updated: 2007-01-16 12:00 AM

This was the first race since the HIM and wanted to see what improvements I had made over last year and to start to push the racing rather than just completing the events.
Went for a quick run around the park, chatted to some friends and went in the sea for a short warm-up prior to the race.
