Swim
Comments: I was late getting into the water because of the line at the bathrooms. I was at the back of the pack at the start and by the half way point I could only see about a dozen people ahead of me. I passed a lot of swimmers and was really feeling great. The first half of the swim was awesome; I reached the half way point faster than planned (3:38). I rounded the half way buoy and started to see my next person to pass. Then I felt someone kick me in the face hit me in the nose and knocked my goggles of my head. My nose and eyes are watering and I had lost my goggles. I searched franticly for my goggle which I knew was sinking to the bottom of the lake and I lucked out and felt them by my knee and was able to grab them. I was treading water working to get my goggles on my head and trying to stay above water as the pack of swimmers were swimming over the top of me. I started to panic and hyperventilate. My HR was in the 180’s and I was all freaked out. Tried to get going again and I couldn’t breathe so I rolled over and started to do the back stroke and get my HR down. I was able to finally finish the swim, much slower than planned and slower than I should have done. I was very upset with my swim. What would you do differently?: Put goggles on under the swim cap. I should have been able to get a sub 7:20 minute swim but turned in a 10+ minute swim. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was fair. time was roled up into the bike time, I hate that they don't split the times out. What would you do differently?: Get a better bike rack spot. Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike. T1 time w=is included in the overall time for the bike. Felt strong and fast. I passed people and didn’t get passed by anyone. I was able to keep a high cadence Average speed on the bike computer was 21.2 mph a little faster than last year. Last year’s curse was a little shorter than this year’s(they corrected the distance). What would you do differently?: Need to work on the swim bike bricks. Transition 2
Comments: Time for T2 is in the run time. Was able to transition fast Run
Comments: First half of the run was a little slower than planned but the secongd half was faster than planned. so it all evened out. I was hoping to run a sub 9:00 mile but I spent to much time treading water and not enough time working on bike/run brick Post race
Warm down: walked around the finih line and waited for Gary W (gwatson2) to finish. Had a cookie. What limited your ability to perform faster: My swim and getting my goggles knocked off. Event comments: Great race lots of volunteers. Last updated: 2007-01-16 12:00 AM

Got to the race early and got stuff for race setup in T areas. Sipped some Head starting 1 hour out and had a gel 30 minutes out. Felt pumped for the race and could wait for the start.
Very Smokey out from the forest fires close by. Could tell it was affecting breathing and sinuses.
