Overall Rank = 320/453
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 74/93
Pre-race routine:

Set-up transision area night before at home to double check that I had everything. Mentally rehersed event. Woke up 4 am had a little something to eat that consisted of a bowl of cereal and cup of oj. Drove to event, topped off tires on bike then walked few blocks to get chip and body marking. Entered tranision area about 5:15 to set-up.
Event warmup:

Walk then easy 5 min run plus stretching. Mentally rehersed event. When swim area was open went into water and got wet
Swim
  • 06m 28s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very pleased with swim. HR was high when I exited but I did not feel taxed.
What would you do differently?:

Understand now about swimming in cloudy water with people. It can be (at least in this case) disorienting. Need to work on navigatation. Started swimming to wrong bouy and had to correct myself. Beathing was ok but need to work.
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

Trotted to bike and I had an end position. Getting shoes was not that bad considering they are an older style biking shoes. It just takes more time. Trotted to mounting area because these shoes are hard to run in and hard on the feet. I was happy with this.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting these shoes on faster or get a different pair.
Bike
  • 47m 32s
  • 14.6 miles
  • 18.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Drank about every 10m and at 40m had Cliff bar. My Catseye took a dump on me before the event (oh well) so I was not able to track cadence or speed. Felt good about about ride I did slow down a couple of times when I HR was starting to climb.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

These shoes are hard to run in. No problems in T2 getting shoes on and took a drink of water before run.
Run
  • 42m 6s
  • 4.4 miles
  • 09m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

May have been slow but it was STEADY and CONSISTENT.
What would you do differently?:

Sprint more at end
Post race
Warm down:

Walk back to transision area and ride back to car. Stretch when I arrived home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Strength and need to continue to work on cutting % body fat. Nothing but dead weight.

Event comments:

I felt good about it considering it was my first event. Continue to train. This first season is all about getting a feel for the sport and learning.
