Pre-race routine:

Didn't get much sleep last night...maybe 4 hours. My roomates cat was meowing for 2 hours straight! While I was awake at 2 am, I ate a protien bar since my tummy was growling!...helped since I had eaten at 7 the night before. Got up at 5 and ate a half of a protien bar. Grabbed my bike and bag and headed over to the park. Waited or another girl from my training team and then we walked to the transition area. Set up our bikes..didn't get the end like I had hoped, but it didn't seem like it mattered during the race.
Event warmup:

Anita and I walked around and met up with our coach as well as other team mates. We never did bike, but we ran to the beach...maybe 1/4 mile. Swam a bit in the ocean, and was so excited cause I did a great body surf in...ran and told my coach her practices worked! It was a great moment.
Swim
  • 12m 55s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

the swim is my strongest part of the course. I totally felt great getting out, but my breathing was fast...always my anxiety at starting any race gets to me. but, I started to calm down about 1/2 way through the course. Someone that was drafting me was too close and kept grabbing my ankles. I started to kick a ton to get them off of me. I got to the shore and ran up the sand to hear my parents cheer me on..felt great!
What would you do differently?:

nothing! or maybe not wear a wetsuit...but I was afraid of jellyfish :)
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

my rack was all the way at the other end of the road..was great for getting my bike to the exit, and but not so good with running from the beach to the bike. Oh well. I got my wetsuit off in one pull..Pam really helps! Got my socks on (I did not want blisters since I had not practiced without socks) And then my shoes, helmet and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice
Bike
  • 34m 8s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Got on my bike and started off good. I am not that fast on the bike and felt too wobbly to use the aero bars. The bike was borrowed and even though I practiced on it, I was not fully comfortable to use the bars
What would you do differently?:

practice
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

This transition seemed pretty decent. got shoes on relativly quick, and ran with my race belt. the only thing i did wrong, was run the wrong way. I headed towards the bike entrance, when I needed to go the other way. So I wasted about 15 seconds...oh well
What would you do differently?:

um..know where i am going :)
Run
  • 31m 2s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Ok, so my legs felt pretty wobbly at the start, but I settled into a nice pace. People passed me a bit, but I passed some. I saw many teammates on their run and tried to cheer them on as I went. I felt good the whole time except that I was overheating in my trisuit. I unzipped it to get some air circulating, and threw water on my head at the water station. At the end stretch, I heard a guy cheer on the girl behind me to pass me, but I had enough strength in my legs to take off and sprint to the finish. there was no way anyone was going to pass me so close to the finish! I could hear my coach cheering me through the finish line!!!
What would you do differently?:

again..practice
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, I was floating on air. Found my family and then went to a picnic with my team. We all brought food and set up a tent. Yay!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First time Tri, I was pretty thrilled with my performance. More training will get me faster. But, I am really happy I did it!

Event comments:

For my first race, I think it was a good one to choose. I am glad the rain held back, but the wind really put a damper on things. All in all, I am hooked!
