Swim
Comments: Could have done better sighting. This was about 10 times bigger than my previous open water swim and it was tough to find an opening in the first several minutes. Had to calm down several times and hit the basics on the stroke and breathing. What would you do differently?: Sighting could have been better. Had to breaststroke a few times just to get my sighting down. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was laid out well and I thought I worked very efficiently. The wetsuit came off fast, shoes, helmet, sun glasses all went on well. What would you do differently?: Learn the shoes on the bike trick. Cant do it too well with the current shoes I have though. Bike
Comments: Followed the D3 racing strategy I got from the BT website and it worked perfectly. Took the first 5 miles at a very high cadence just to get the legs up to speed, then took some fluids and started to pick up the pace. On the second lap I dropped the hammer and took a gel about 15 minutes from T2. Other than climbing, I only got passed by about 4 people, on VERY nice bikes. What would you do differently?: Need to work on climbing. Got passed several times going uphill. Transition 2
Comments: Not too much to change, forgot to take the last gel with me which was sitting in my hat. Run
Comments: Did my best to stay light on my feet and fight through it. All of the Team In Training supporters and athletes was the major fact that got me through the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, tried to get a massage but there was a big line. Stretched a bit and took on fluids and ate. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing ... this was my best race yet! Ok, get better at climbing hills and run faster! Event comments: Took Endurolytes in T1 and T2 which I think was a major factor in my performance. Not even a hint of cramping Last updated: 2007-01-20 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:30 and rode with a pack of about 50 Team In Training teammates from our hotel over to the venue about 3 miles away. It was a very cool experience in the pre-dawn hours rolling around downtown with the tired, nervous, anxious group of athletes. Got transition setup, quadruple checked everything AGAIN, put the wetsuit on a headed over to the shuttle to the swim start.
Got in to do a warmup swim in the river, hydrated, ate 1 gel, not much to wash it down with though as the drink stations over at the swim start were limited.
