Swim
Comments: Swim was comfortable as I managed to stay out of trouble and stayed on course. My time was about 2 minutes slower then the last time I raced here so I knew I would have to cycle and run well if I was going to beat my overall time from last year. I'm sure I don't push as hard in the swim leg as I do in the other 2 legs of a tri and this is an area I could really improve. What would you do differently?: I need to focus more in the swim and push myself harder. Transition 1
Comments: All went well. I put my cycle shoes on in T1 today as it was only a very short run to the cycle mount line and I also forgot my elastic bands. What would you do differently?: Don't forget elastic bands. Bike
Comments: Pushed as hard as I could and managed to tag along (not draft) with a group of riders (who were all drafting) at the start of the second lap. I then noticed that Brad "the Croc" Bevan was in the group. For those who don't remember, Brad Bevan was a pro triathlete a couple of years ago, so it was pretty cool to be out competing along side him. Needless to say after about 30 seconds the pack, including Brad, sped off into the distance and I dropped off the back. I completed the rest of the cycle leg by myself and managed to pass quite a few guys in my age group. What would you do differently?: My bike computer said that my average speed for the bike leg was 35kph's so I'm wrapped with that pace and want to continue to train hard so I can maintain this level in other races. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went well and got in and out without any dramas. What would you do differently?: All good. Run
Comments: As I entered T2 I could see a mate of mine from my running group tear off on the run course so I was going to use him as a rabbit and try and run him down. I set off and chased as hard as I could although I didn’t make up any ground on him, it was good because it made me concentrate on running hard for the entire 5k and not drop my pace. What would you do differently?: Keep going to my run group as my running still needs to improve. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a couple of cups of gatorade, watermelon and some water and headed for the shade. Towards the end of the race, the sun started to shine through the clouds and made it pretty hot and sticky. I felt sorry for the competitors who were still out racing. Event comments: Overall I really enjoyed this race and surprised myself with how well I did in the cycle and run legs. Blew last years overall time away by 3 minutes which is just brilliant. Can't wait for the next race in Feb. Last updated: 2007-01-21 12:00 AM

Had my holiday plans change at the last minute so I was lucky enough to be able to squeeze this race in. Two weeks out from the race I put in a heap of training but the week leading up was very light indeed, only 2 runs. This lead me to be a little unsure about how I was going to go but I was keen as mustard to race. Time to beat from last year 1:21
No real warm up (maybe I should change this part of my routine) just watched the event organisers drag out the swim turn buoy a very long way from the swim start. I was sure (and so was everybody else) that it was going to be way more then 750 meters.
