Pre-race routine:

Nothing special, just got up super early to eat a bagel, drink some coffee, and get the baby ready to head up to Boulder.
Event warmup:

Did some easy BMG drills, then easy w/u of about a mile, then 3 sets of strides.

Comments:

Overall I am very happy with this run. Just on little stupid nonsense alone I could have easily gone under 40 minutes. I was in the wrong wave, and absolutely battled the first mile to find any clear space, same for all of the corners throughout the race. I also held back a little throughout, because I was watching the pace on my GPS, and running each mile according to the plan of running a fast first downhill mile, taking it easier in the middle with the hills, and then hammering at the end. Problem is that the course was either long or my GPS is screwed up, because my GPS said 6.33 total miles, and had my average pace at 6:22 (and that pace would have easily put me under 40). So, I could have just pushed harder here and there and was controlling myself based on the GPS, and didn't realize until it was way too late that I was going to be over 40 minutes. Definitely very close to my goal time to begin with, and then easy to find places to go faster, so no regrets.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I need to ignore the GPS and just run the course on feel and splits according to their markers. That, and not ride 80 miles the day before a race. I'm an idiot apparently. Otherwise, I thought I ran the course really well, took advantage of the fast spots on the downhills, ran the hills conservatively, and paced it well for a strong finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and through the expo. Stopped in to see the BT and EPC crowd, but the baby was fussy and we wanted to get her into the shade, so I didn't hang long. Sorry I missed Chris, Julia and Mark.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No taper for this race, and no specific prep to run a fast 10K. I'm excited though, because I feel like I still know exactly how and where to get faster, and I still feel like I'm nowhere near peaking out on my speed or capability for running.

Event comments:

I love this race. Even when I was pushing and hurting toward the end, I was still having fun and loving the crowd and the course and the event itself. Great venue, well organized, very well attended. Easily an annual staple of my running.
