Swim
Comments: So I started out too fast. Adrenaline or whatever, but I definitely started out too fast. Finally Wendy Mader passed me and I caught her heelf for a few hundred yards. Then we rounded the 2nd bouy and I TOTALLY lost her and had to go it on my own and at that point at least one other gal caught me. I was fatigued from going out too fast I think. Put in a final little kick and then stood up too soon. OK swim - better than the last 2 I guess, but not great. About 30" faster than last year. What would you do differently?: go out more a little more moderately - I was literally in the lead. I should just get behind Wendy to start with and try to stay on her heels the whole way. I seem to lose people at bouys... Transition 1
Comments: So this transition was a disaster!!! I got the suit off fine, but then I couldn't get my shoes on - THEN when I tried to buckle my helmet, I bumped my bike and almost knocked over the bike next to mine (and I know who's bike it was and I was REALLY trying not to knock it over!) Anyway, then I got stuck behind a bit of a traffic jam of people crossing the mats just in front of me. I did do a flying mount, but it was so crowded at that second, I'm not sure it made a difference. What would you do differently?: Not be a KLUTZ!! Get a better transition spot. I was on the left - I should have picked a spot where I could be on the RIGHT of my bike. Bike
Comments: I thought this was a decent ride. I wanted to be at 22 mph and sub 47 - BUT I was a little short of that. I was still happy thinking it was a good effort, but I'm concerned because my watts were WAY low. Don't know if this was a result of overtraning, mental funk, or what, but I felt like I was going hard and fast, but my power didn't agree! What would you do differently?: Look at my power meter?? Maybe it just wasn't my day. Transition 2
Comments: Aside from losing a shoe and then having trouble getting my running shoe on, this was a fine transition. Just need to get the shoes prepped a tad better. What would you do differently?: Just be smoother. Run
Comments: Well, not sure where to start here... I think I should just say I felt like crap and leave it at that. I pretty much went on feel and went as hard as I could, but I just didn't have it in my today. I got passed with 1 mile to go and couldn't hang on her heels. Turns out she was running 7' pace which is where I wanted to be. I just couldn't dig out the extra today and it kept me from the podium. STILL I was much faster on the run than last year and I ran as fast as I could today. incidenatlaly it was a 5k PR, so I guess I should be happy about that. Overall I will say I'm happy and not at the same time. Great that I can be 4th on a "crappy" day and still pull something out, but on the other hand, It makes me more worried about how I'm going to do at Nationals. What would you do differently?: feel better??? Post race
Warm down: Jogged a bit then just walked, swam with the kids and ate some good grub :) What limited your ability to perform faster: The last 2 races and pending Nationals in 2 weeks. Overtrained possibly and also just not mentally up for this race. Event comments: Really love the whole 5439 series races. I'm not crazy about sprints though and I wish there was more food. By the time I got to the tent a lot of stuff was gone. Overall though, well organized and worth it!! Last updated: 2007-01-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at the CRACK of dawn - 3:45AM. Cup of coffee, PBJ, Sustained Energy and hit the road. Ate on the way down. Parked, got marked, wasted time with my bike, left transition. Got dressed and went for my WU with Stacie.
short jog - about 10-12'. Added in 2 pick ups. The legs appeared to be working!! Swam for about 15' pre race. Wanted to be sure I was good and warmed up.
