Age Group Rank = 4/8
Pre-race routine:

Usual peanut butter and toast, two shot bloks about an hour out from the race.
Event warmup:

Lots of stretching and a few "pace runs"
Run
  • 22m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out too fast - first lap was way too fast, and knew as soon as I checked my watch it was going to be a hard finish.
What would you do differently?:

Run even splits, just under 7 minute miles - and finish quicker.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around and drinking some water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Missed my correct pace. This really screwed up my race - and caused me to run this race slower than last year (by 5 seconds). This is the first race in 5 plus years of racing that I have been slower than the previous year...I was very disappointed, to say the least.

And what is up with this age bracket - the winner in this bracket was 17 minutes, and the second and third spot was 19 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively.

Event comments:

Great race - but horrible awards ceremony. It was probably two hours after I finished before they had any times available - and were able to start the awards.
