Pre-race routine:

Met up with a lot of B.T ers. Too many to even mention right now. This was a great gathering.
Event warmup:

Went for a short ride (In hindsite maybe it should have been longer.)
Swim

Comments:

I was very happy with this swim. In the end I was 68 out of 379. Very satisfied. I felt great today and thought I was going to have a great race. Looking at the times of some of the elites I think this course was probably longer than measured. I find it hard to believe I can do 1:30's in the pool and 2:06 in a wetsuit. Not bitter, just seems curious to me.
What would you do differently?:

Comments:

DID NOT FINISH!!!!! I think this is the most dissapointed I have ever been in a sporting event. I felt AWESOME on the bike. Legs were feeling great. At mile 4.5 I heard a high pitched twang and looked down to see a busted spoke. At this point I was averaging 22.1 m.p.h. according to my computer and I was feeling VERY strong. A volunteer rushed up to me and looked at it and helped me wrap the spoke around another spoke. I was in a really high gear because I had just started up a hill so I had a lot of trouble getting going. Almost crashed a few times because I just couldn't move. Figured out by the time I got to the top of the hill my wheel was taco'od. The wheel could barely get by and only with a ton of force. End of race for me.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I knew. I was on a pretty smoothe patch of pavement when it happened.
Transition 2

Post race
Warm down:

Cheering on people for over an hour waiting for non existant sag support to help out with a ride back. I ended bumming a ride from two very nice volunteers when they were done with duties.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Funny one.

Event comments:

I wish I could have completed this race so bad. It was great seeing the smiles and all the happy b.t.ers after the race. I was extremely happy for you all and am so glad you all had a great race day. The great thing about this is....Heart of the Lakes is only 2 weeks away.
Side note. I want to give a big hand to Gear West. I showed up at their very busy facilty and within 30 minutes they had changed my spoke and trued the wheel.Grand total $15.00. Unfortunately he said the next spoke could snap tommorow because of wheel fatigue or I could have many miles left. Said if another one goes it is time to get new wheels. Now that will be on my mind everytime I ride.
