Pre-race routine:

overslept...this was indicative of the approach i was taking to this. Another training day. Set alarm for 4:15..Woke up a little after 5am wondering why there was light coming into window. Freaked for a second..then rapidly packed bags, got dressed, packed up car and went looking for parking sport. Ate a cliff bar and started drinking infinit.
Event warmup:

Not much..Got into wetsuit.walked to start. Did 3-4 out and backs into the water and waited for the last wave to go.

Comments:

It felt smooth.. No issues sighting like last year.. No chop and the buoys were bigger. My starting wave was pretty small and ended up i think breaking away from pack with a few others. No one to draft. Sighting was fine. It seemed everyone was much wider of the buouys then they needed. It felt ez the whole swim. No calf cramps like last year. Got out of water and an ez jog thru sand to t1. But my time was the SAME as last year. WTF? Last year chop, couldnt see anything, cramp caused me to be a beached whale out there for at least a minute and i hobbled up the sand (which counts as swimming time). I dont get it.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder.

Comments:

Was in no rush here as it was a "training" day. Saw kids on way up the beach and high fived them. No trouble finding my bike..it was only one around in my area. Had trouble with wetsuit on right heel i believe. Then the timing chip came off. Then they socks. Then my Garmin on..speaking of which, ive got to figure for IM MOO what im going to do for timing? Grabbed the bike and off.
What would you do differently?:

Not much but would have been a little quicker if i was racing.

Comments:

ok...this is where my heart got crushed. Ive been riding, and riding and riding.. More than ever. There have been some bike fit issues going on the last few weeks...My road bike geomoetry is not helping the piriformis issue ive been battling. Got a new seat post fri (forward) and rode it a litte (20 miles sat) and it was better, but not great. After 30 minutes..could not get comfortable on the sadde. Either i was back in the saddel on the seat bones making my right piriformis, glut, hamstring SCREAM or i was forward with all my weight on my perineum. I was shifting every 2-3 minutes unable to get any rhythm. By 30 miles gave up aero and just rode on the hoods. Then it actually felt better standing in the saddle; especially for the hills (which were not that bad). Goal HR was 147 for the bike; especially since i knew i was not going to run (forbidden by my coach and ran 9 miles on Sat). But could never get comfortable enough to push hard enough to get my hr high enough. I was ready to just get off the bike by mile 40, but wanted to finish...(not sure what i was trying to prove). Anyways, came lumbering home in the same time as last year. Had trouble getting off the bike..Right leg really tight. Beck reccomended going to massage tent. Was there with some of the pro who had just finished. Things loosened up a little bit. Then..funny thing..went to food tent to get some h20, a pb jelly sandwich. Sat down for a sec and one of the guys/(he took 4th or 5th overall, asked how i was feeling...great race etc. Said i looked pretty good..I was embarrased to inform him that i had reason to look pretty good since I only did 2/3 of it. He lost interest in talking to me at that point.
What would you do differently?:

shoot the bike, not get on the bike, invested in a tri bike earlier this season instead of the computrainer. I dont know..Its a combination of my injury and my 63 cannondale fram with my 6"3' height that is currently incompatible with an aero position.

Warm down:

grabbed some food, hung out with the kids. Saw Birkie runner finish. I really wanted to stick around and cheer on the rest of the BT crew but my wife was getting a littie (ok.a lot irritated with the kids) plus it was actually hard watching everyone battle the run and finish..I really did want to be out there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me, my bike, my right leg. Kind of a depressing thought for IM WI right now. I need to figure out this bike fit problem.. Me thinks im headed to the LBS to start looking at tri bikes.

Event comments:

2nd yr there...i think its an excellent venue..the bike course was well covered with the local police. Only one intersection did an idiot bolt across and the cops were all over them
