Pre-race routine:

This race was done after very little training. I got back on Thursday from a 24 day vacation around the country. I had Nationals on June 30th and then I got in 1 bike ride, 1 swim and 3 runs in the last 20 days. So I had lost a lot of fitness. I was not planning on being very fast today. My only goal was to be very fast in Transitions.Woke up at 4 and ate 2 waffles and a protein shake and head up to Boulder by 4:30. Got up there at 5:20 and there was a line to get body marked. I skipped it and went into Transition and found an end spot, which I like, then went back out to get body marked. Saw Julia, Stacie, Kenny, Richard and Ben.
Event warmup:

10 minute run with 4 accelerations and a quick swim right before my wave went off.
Swim
  • 28m 59s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

So I have swam once before the race in the past 3 weeks so I knew I would be slow. Started out near the front. Only had a few elbows hit me. Finally found clear water and just swam. My arms were tired at the first bouy. My hands were falling asleep? Maybe since I haven't swam in a wetsuit in a while. Just kept swimming and got to the beach at 28 minutes flat. Very happy with that. 1 minute run up the beach.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink so much beer and eat bad food for the last 4 weeks. Oh and train a little while on vacation.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Decent T1. My right heal was in the way of the wetsuit so it took a bit longer than normal.
What would you do differently?:

Put on pam on my heals. Cut my heals off!
Bike
  • 1h 12m 11s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 21.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Went out easy and fueled well today. Got up olde stage and was relieved! I forgot how tough it was. Had several people pass me today as I was not going all out. My training has been almost nil! So I was just enjoying the ride. I did a lot more coasting than normal on some of the bigger down hills! Not terrible!
What would you do differently?:

See swim section!
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

Ah! First in my agegroup and 3rd overall. some dude posted a 30 secodn T2. Of course my T2 spot was a long way away. The next fastest guy in my agegroup was 50 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! Maybe fly!
Run
  • 47m 15s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Rough run. Started out ok then I slowed a lot at the end. Adam caught me and we ran together for a while then he left me. It was hot and the gravel is always hard to run in. Then Richard pat me and so did everyone else. Slowest 10k in a tri ever by about 5 minutes.
Mile 1 6:57
Mile 2 6:54
mile 3 7:52 Had to be long here!
mile 3.1 :50
Mile 4 6:34
Mile 5 8:02
mile 6 8:36
Mile 6.2 1:26

What would you do differently?:

Run more on vacation oh and see section under swim
Post race
Warm down:

Beer and food and shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, beer and bad food.

Event comments:

Just an awesome race. I wanted to do it even if I had no training! It is just a great race. Good to see all the BT'ers out there and racing hard.
