Swim
Comments: Lots of side stroke and walking in shallow end. Side stitch while swimming. Jumped in pool. Was shallow end and banged the bad knee so bad the bandage fell off. Swim mask leaked a lot, so swam sideways so I could see. Actually average or slightly better results based on training times and my swim experience and technique. But poor compared to other competitors. Physically tired by the time I got to the swim, which didn't help technique at all. This after a run and bike and then a half mile run up hill to get to the pool. What would you do differently?: Practice more, and see if goggles would leak less than mask. Transition 1
Comments: This was t2. going from bike to swim. Not bad. went from bike shoes to trail shoes as they had yankz laces for fast change. What would you do differently?: Hide bike shoes. They got stolen while on swim. Bike
Comments: Still tentative cornering after crash on Monday. Back brake rubbed on rear wheel whole race and still does. Course was narrow, half the time not enough room to pass. Don't have confidence in tires gripping wet pavement after crash even though I only have 900 miles on them. Should probably change them out. Didn't use aerobars as much as I would have liked. Downhills were narrow and sharp corners at bottoms of most downhills so slowed down a lot. What would you do differently?: Practice more cornering and get new tires. Transition 2
Comments: Helmet was on before I unracked bike and stayed on till I re racked the bike. Averaged 15.1 mph on hilly course. Best AG averaged 18 mph. Leader averaged 17.4 What would you do differently?: Need more work on the hills, although this isnt bad effort for the amount of hill training I have done so far. Not many hills near here. Gear shifts were pretty good, and legs were ok. Run
Comments: I had expected 9 minute miles or worse. So happy with this. No water at all on course, and this is first time I ran a race without carrying a water bottle. Wont happen again. Post race
Warm down: Looking for missing shoes and filling out paper for race director in case shoes get turned in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rubbing brake on back wheel, lack of confidence on the turns and corners after Monday's crash and poor swim technique. Event comments: Fun challenging course. Garmin lost signal under trees so mileage was off. Tight bike course not much room to manuever especially on sharp turns at the bottom of almost every hill.
