Age Group Rank = 14/18
Pre-race routine:

Get up at 6 am, and have my normal breakfast of oatmeal with p-nut butter, honey and raisins.
Event warmup:

Go for a light 5 minute jog and get in a good stretch.
Swim
  • 16m 29s
  • 500 yards
  • 03m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Being my first triathlon, and just learning how to swim, I was quite aprehensive going into the swim. My goal was to finish and not feel tired because of the bike and run.
What would you do differently?:

I would have raced like I practiced, I went way to slow...I think I was the next to the slowest person in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

The first transition went well, I did not feel rushed, I just focused on taking my time and not forgetting to any of the things I practiced ( 1 bottle of water and one gel and 1 gel for half way through the race)
What would you do differently?:

I would have went faster, I would have taped the gels to my top tube like I was supposed to the night before.
Bike
  • 46m 6s
  • 20 kms
  • 26.03 km/hr
Comments:

I felt pretty good on the bike course, I was able to power through hills with no problem.
What would you do differently?:

I would have pushed harder through the bike course, and I would have taken in a lot more fluids.
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

The last transition was a little faster, as I made the turn onto Statesville Rd., I was thinking what I was going to do to get ready for the run.
What would you do differently?:

I would have moved with more urgency.
Run
  • 25m 29s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 06s  min/km
Comments:

It was a decent run until the last mile, my quads were cramping. It progressed to a point where I could not speed up at all.
What would you do differently?:

I would have drinked a lot more fluids.
Post race
Warm down:

Consumed a ton of fluids and stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Quads cramping.

Event comments:

Being my first race, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience...I can't wait until LATTA!
