Swim
Comments: felt like I zigzagged a lot. I went out really fast to get some open water, but lost most of my advantage by going diagonal across the course. Stayed with a brath every right stroke rather than every third stroke. Did catch a good draft on the second half, but still had some difficulties staying in it as I wasn't going very straight. What would you do differently?: go straight and try to stay smoother with breathing every third stroke Transition 1
Comments: wetsuit got caught on the timing chip and strap. What would you do differently?: make sure the timing chip and strap are inside the suit rather than below it on my ankle Bike
Comments: Felt like I should have more in my legs, but couldn't muster anymore out of them. Looking at other bike speeds, it appears that speeds were a bit slower than I had expected, across the board. Maybe the wind or hills had more impact than I thought. Drank whole bottle of Gatorade, but only 1/3 of water bottle. What would you do differently?: not sure drink more water on the bike Transition 2
Comments: had to pause for a breather and a sip of water. this took a little more time than had expected. May want to spend a little time at ed of bike to prepare for transition, rather than beating the last few people into transition, only to get beat out due to need for extra time. What would you do differently?: prepare for transition on the last portion of bike bungie laces in race shoes Run
Comments: run was good. Had one guy in front of me at about the same pace, maybe a little faster than I wanted to run. That was a good thing as I forced myself to keep him close enough with the object to stay with him until after mile 3 and hopefully have enough pass him in the final 1.2 miles. I passed him just beyond mile 3 and putting an 11 second gap between us by the finish. What would you do differently?: need to learn to run faster I feel I put out as much effort as possible, and had a good techinical run. did walk twice, once right out of the transition to drink some Gatorade and at mile 2.2 aid station. both were just to take a little drink and go. ok with the walk at the aid station, but need to not do the walk out of transition. Post race
Warm down: didn't warm down much other than walking around for a bit. heart rate and breathing didn't take long to recover What limited your ability to perform faster: running speed!!!!!!!!!!! going straight during swim will maybe add seconds Event comments: Race did actually start 20 minutes late, but considering the torential downpour and thunderstorm that rolled through between 7 and 8am I think they did a great job getting the race off promptly.
