Swim
Comments: Decided at the last minute to wear my wetsuit and feel it was a good choice. I haven't swam in it for some time as I thought it would be too warm to use it. I was pleasantly surprised how smooth my stroke felt during my warm-ups with it. I was able to navigate well, probably the best all season. Did run into a guy from the previous wave and almost caught his frog kick in the face. I guess a 3min split in waves may not be enough all the time. What would you do differently?: Need to work on staying calm during swim and reaching to grab more water and roll smoothly. Transition 1
Comments: Hill into transition took a bit out of me. Walked a bit as soon as I hit the mat into T1. Got some extra motivation to see B-one at his transition spot on my way to my spot, I had expected him to be long gone. Transition area was long and narrow, adding to transition times, but more importantly I spent a few seconds catching my breath. What would you do differently?: jog easily instead of walking, and wait until on the bike to get a drink of water and catch an extra breath. Bike
Comments: Foot slipped off shoe at start of bike leg. What would you do differently?: Be more careful placing foot on shoe. Need to check brakes prior to race. I checked my front brakes after the race and the right pad was very close to rubbing. It was close enough that it may have been rubbin lightly, but I'm not sure that it was. With the speed I was able to maintain I don't think it was, but need to remember to check from now on to avoid problems in the future. Transition 2
Comments: Took some time for a quick breath and drink of water. Again the transition was long and narrow adding to transition times What would you do differently?: Not much that I wold do differently, maybe try to catch my breath while on the run rather than losing the few seconds in transition, but not sure if that will help much. I felt much better starting the run having caught my breath for the short time it took. I still struggled with breathing as the run progressed so not sure I would be able to calm myself while on the run if I start it anaerobic as I was entering T2 Run
Comments: Breathing rate was higher than I would like for most of run. Used short quick strides to try and calm myself. It helped a bit. Finish kick felt great. I wasn't quite sure where the finish was so when I saw it from around the corner, it was a pleasant surprise. I felt strong through the finish, actually increasing speed significantly over the last 200yds or so. What would you do differently?: Technique was- nothing. I do need to improve muscular endurance. Post race
Warm down: Cheering for other racers and a swim in the lake to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Running! Event comments: I really enjoyed this race and have already started making plans to participate again next year. Last updated: 2007-02-06 12:00 AM
