Swim
Comments: I started in the middle of the group, and had to maneuver around people. One girl kept grabbing at me…so I had to defend my space a bit. I hope that I wasn’t a bit over zealous as I was doing that :(. I was still trying to get some space as we rounded the first buoy. As a result, my arm got caught up in the buoy’s anchor line. Whoops. Note to self, don’t’ stay so close to the buoys. After a bit more time, I was able to get some swim space. It felt that as soon as I started to work myself into a good pace it was time to turn into the shore! So, I turned, and got caught in the buoy…again!!! Who would have thought someone could do that twice in the same race? Oye. What would you do differently?: Start more towards the front, and not swim so close to the buoys. Transition 1
Comments: Don't know my time, but this felt pretty good. Bike
Comments: The view at the Marine base (the sun was rising over the ocean) was amazing!! I mean, I was totally focused on the course. The ride was flat until a hill in the middle. I could have pushed harder on the hill, but wasn’t sure if I could clear people in the required 15 seconds. So, I kept a steady pace. It was during the ride that I was thinking, I forgot how much fun this is! What would you do differently?: Umm, not much. I had fun. Transition 2
Comments: I don't remember much from this transition. Run
Comments: I looked at my watch at T2, and realized that it was possible to meet my goal time (1:15). I think that excited me a bit, and I had to remind myself to slow down. There was a lady in front of me, and I tried to keep up with her. We picked up a guy along the route, and the three of us pushed each other for a lot of the course. At mile 3, I picked up the pace, but they didn’t keep up. So, I tried to push myself. I was tiring out just as I saw tizzy with her daughters coming to watch the race end. She yelled, and that gave me some much needed energy! I finished strong, and with a run that I didn’t think was in me :). What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Found my tutu (Hawaiian for grandma), found my neighbor (he killed the course, and is now looking for a road bike), watched people finish, chatted with other BTers (tizzy and tritwinmom), and watched the really speedy people get their awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: damn buoy lines. Event comments: This is a great race...highly recommended! Last updated: 2007-02-07 12:00 AM

I got up, got dressed, and crammed an English muffin with peanut butter into my mouth. Then, I headed outside and met up with my neighbor (this was his first tri). We rode to the race start (it was about 2 miles away). It was sooo nice to have a nice leisurely ride to the race start. I wish I could ride my bike to more race starts. I think that it calmed me down a bunch. We got the race, and set up our transition area. I was overwhelmed by the amount of people there—it was the largest triathlon that I had raced.
Does the bike ride down there count? What about jumping around a bit before the swim start?
