Swim
Comments: First off, the water wasn’t near as cold as we expected...pretty much just like the pool at the gym. We had to tread water for about a minute before the gun, but not so bad. Had a great first half of the swim with no problems sighting. Second half of the swim was still really good, but because there were so many buoys I found it hard to sight to the right one. Didn’t really slow me down too much, but I did have to stop once and get a good look. What would you do differently?: Not much really. I should've come in about a minute faster, but first open water swim of the year... Transition 1
Comments: HaHa! T1 itself wasn’t that bad, but I'm an idiot and clipped my right shoe into my left pedal and left shoe into my right pedal. Had to stop immediately after the mount line when I soon realized the issue, rip off shoes, put them on the right foot, and then jump back on the bike. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention in set-up. Bike
Comments: Good bike for me. I'm not an overly strong biker, so I was pretty happy with my performance. Maintained a strong mph, but then again this is a really fast race. No hills & little wind so I was ranging from 17-24 mph really easily. I did have a little numbness in my sensitive regions, but I also spent 95% of the race in aero. What would you do differently?: Not too much. I probably could have pushed a little harder on the middle part of the race, but I wanted to conserve a little energy for the run. I also think it is probably time to invest in a better saddle. Transition 2
Comments: Dude in front of me on the run to T2 was blocking me the whole time. I yelled to move, and he did...right back into my way. Annoying! Threw my shoes on, grabbed my hat/belt, and took about 3 steps to start to turn to run...forgot my helmet was still on. Turned around and threw it on my towel. Probably only cost a couple of seconds, but still frustrating. What would you do differently?: focus Run
Comments: First part of the run was tough, because of a cramp in my stomach. I blame that on the Gel I shot and unfortunately chased with a Gatorade....I wanted water but the dude gave me Gatorade. I walked for about 10 feet until the cramp passed, and then hit the road again. Didn’t really hit my groove until about 2 miles into the run, but from then on I was cooking. My last mile was exactly what I wanted my whole run to be...fast, fast, and fast. Caught up with my friend about 1/2 a mile out who was also having cramping in his stomach, so I slowed down my pace and offered some support. The final 100 yards I told him to suck it up and sprint out the finish. We took off and talked crap till the final step. Oh ya, about 3 feet to the finish...he reaches over pushes me in the chest so he goes across the line first. It was hilarious to see everyone's face when he did it! It was awesome. The finish line pic is going to be great! What would you do differently?: Keep working on my pre/during race nutrition. I think that the cramp was probably because of too much sugar in a short amount of time. Next time I'd probably shoot the gu on the bike and chase it with water. Post race
Warm down: beer, beer, and more beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much...first race of the season, so it's just a matter of getting back into the groove. Event comments: I love this race, and will continue to do it year after year. It's just a fun race. Last updated: 2007-02-08 12:00 AM
