Run
Comments: Typical Crescent City Classic, fighting the huddled masses for the first mile, then being able to find your own pace. Didn't push this one as it's the longest distance I've run this year, having run less than a month since the injury layoff. Just found a comfortable hard pace to stay with early, then pushed a little harder the last mile or so. Splits: Mile 1: 8:58, 127bpm averageHR Mile 2: 8:18, 140bpm Mile 3: 8:18, 143bpm Mile 4: 8:14, 148bpm Mile 5: 8:20, 143bpm Mile 6: 7:47, 155bpm Mile.2: 1:43 (7:51 pace), 162bpm What would you do differently?: Eh, not be hurt and train consistently and specifically, but this was a good outing, all things considered. Post race
Warm down: Walked past the barricades (about a mile) and waited for Dylan. Must have missed him, after ten minutes I gave up and went into the stadium. Got Gatorade, Chee-Wheez, jambalaya, Mentos, then walked to the car to get my fleece sweater. Walked back and called Angel, found them and they were ready to get out of the cold so we left. What limited your ability to perform faster: Insufficient training. Looking back at my records, this is actually the fastest CCC that I've run. Most years are too hot for full speed, and/or I run the route backwards first as part of marathon training. Nowhere near my 46:29 PR set last fall, though. Event comments: Crescent City has become a yearly tradition, this is the first year we brought the whole family to run it. More of a carnival than a serious road race, well-organized considering the nearly 20,000 participants it brings. Fun time, nice bands at the end, I heard the legendary Clarence "Frogman" Henry perform in the short time we were there. We'll be back next year if at all possibel. Last updated: 2007-02-12 12:00 AM

Coffee, bagels, shower, shave, dress, drive 15 minutes to City Park. Caught the shuttle bus, drove a circuitous route to the French Quarter, walked to our chute on Ursulines, and did the portapotty shuffle until the race start.
Huddled on side of building out of the wind when not in portapotty line. Typically CCC is a hot race with temps starting in the 80s and high humidity, heat exhaustion is the call of the day. This year was an anomaly: overcast and in the mid-40s with wind. Great weather for running, not so great for standing around waiting to run.
