Pre-race routine:

Stayed the night at one of my friends houses. Woke up at 5 and got dressed. had a gu and some water. around 6:15 we walked to the start line. on the way there didn't think the 3/4 mile walk was bad, in fact i enjoyed it to get the blood flowing. had another gu at about 6:30 and the last at about 7:10.
Event warmup:

Just walked to the start line and stretched. my legs were feeling pretty good considering my right calf/shin had been hurting me all week. was happy i wasn't in any pain before the race started.

Comments:

Being my first HM I decided I was going to shoot for around 2 hrs. Decided to run the first 3 miles at 10min/mile pace and then try to run the rest at around 9min/mile. After the first 3 miles I tried to pick it up some but pretty much stayed at the 10min/mile pace the entire race. Wasn't disappointed as a really just wanted to break 10min/mile and run the entire thing without walking. I broke both these goals with a 9:59/mile pace and ran the entire thing.
What would you do differently?:

Train longer. I had a triathlon 2 weeks out and did a 5k last week so I pretty much started tapering 3 weeks out and had I kept it to only about 1.5 weeks I think I could have done a little better.
Post race
Warm down:

Right when I crossed the finish line I wanted to lay down but I knew that wouldn't be good so I went through all the motions of picking up my medal, getting all the food/water/gatorade and getting my finishers picture taken. After that I walked to where I was meeting all my friends and just stretched and talked while waiting for the stragglers. Turned out that one of our friends who hadn't trained enough and was trying to run with a recently graduated college crosscountry runner pushed to hard and became dehydrated and passed out at mile 10. They had to take her to the hospital but she came out ok after they pumped her full of fluids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The sheer number of people. Weaving in and out of all the people got pretty old pretty quick. According to my garmin i actually ran 13.3 miles because of all this weaving. A lot of people kept stopping right in front of me or cutting across traffic without looking behind them and it just started to takes its toll on me. Overall it was a good time though.

Event comments:

I heard that you could get one free beer at the beer tent but I never did find the tent. That was ok though since it was miller lite.
