Swim
Comments: When I got in the pool, the water was much warmer than the air and my cold hands and feet started tingling from the temperature change. Next thing I know the guy says are you ready, so I quickly sealed my goggles and then started. The guy I was sharing the lane with had really bad technique and I had to continually avoid this flailing arms and legs. He was throwing both his arms and legs out very wide. What would you do differently?: I really didn't swim hard because I was warmed up at all and had to start right off. I could have swam faster. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good transition, socks, shoes, helmet, and sunglasses all went on pretty quickly and smoothly. I had a little trouble clipping in as I was excited to get up to speed on my bike. What would you do differently?: I will probably upgrade my pedals. I bought cheap ones and would like to have pedals that are easier to clip into. Bike
Comments: I have been doing a lot longer of rides than 12 miles so I started pedaling hard and kept pedaling hard. There was a strong headwind over 1/2 of the course and it slowed me to between 19 and 21mph. I felt good though and kept pushing through the wind. When there wasn't a headwind, I was going between 24 and 28mph. What would you do differently?: Not much to change... I could maybe build more speed by doing interval sessions or something. The wind was a bit like riding on the beeline up the gradual hill. Transition 2
Comments: Real smooth transition, except the race people made it seem like they wanted you to run to the end of transition with your bike and then back to the rack. I started doing this and then the people waving me back there turned around so I asked if I could go to my rack and then it was a smooth transition. What would you do differently?: Good transition... other than that which is out of my control. Run
Comments: Ran very well and felt comfortable the entire way. What would you do differently?: I felt like I could run faster, but I was all alone for the entire run and had no idea what pace I was running. Didn't have anyone to reel in or run away from to push my pace. Post race
Warm down: Ate a couple of bananas and drank some water... a little later met my friend and his family at Red Robin and I had a big tall Guinness... mmm mmm good. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind and not knowing what pace I was running. I usually have people to reel in after I get done swimming and did not have anyone to reel in on the bike or the run. Event comments: Oh, cool to finish 3rd overall and 1st in the 30-34 age group. FUN STUFF! I also met Sally (riorio) and talked to her during the awards ceremony. She is nice and did real well too. Last updated: 2007-02-14 12:00 AM

It was cold... setup my gear and tried to stay warm.
I did a little stretching, but then it was time to get in the pool. My hands and feet were cold and since I was in the first set of groupings, I did not get to warm up.
