Swim
Comments: Ok swim. Huge wave, so lots of bodies bumping for real estate. Got stuck behind some dude who swam the BACKSTROKE for the entire race. WTF??? I neglected my swim for the end of March and most of April. I really felt that during the swim. I also spiked my heart rate due to the poor swim prep. I came out of the water with a HR of 180 which caused me issues on the bike. First race with the wetsuit and only my 2nd time wearing one. I couldn't tell as big of a performance difference in the lake as I noticed in the pool, but still know that it was a help. What would you do differently?: Really up my swimming. I wasn't where I needed to be with my swim conditioning. It wasn't a bad swim but I know that I could have done better. Swim had buoys on your right, but I kept cutting the corners and having to swim back out to the buoys to make the turn. Guess that's better than going way too far to the outside. Transition 1
Comments: HR was 180 when I hit the beach. Walked most of the really long transition to try to drop it some. Did the same when leaving the TA with the bike. We had about 100 yds or more over uneven grass to get the bike to the road. What would you do differently?: Need to trim the wetsuit legs to help get them off faster. Bike
Comments: Not sure if it was my HR or what, but I did not feel it on the bike. I'm questioning having spent the money on the Trek right now. I can't seem to hit a good comfort zone with it yet. I like the aero position but the gearing seems to be off from what I like/am used to using. Took a gel at the beginning and end of the bike. What would you do differently?: Try not to have a HR of 175 before I turn the pedals the first time. Transition 2
Comments: Decent TA, nothing spectacular. Long way from the road to my rack. Run
Comments: HR issues continued into the first part of the run. I walked as much of the 1st lap as I ran. Just couldn't get my HR under control. Keith caught and passed me early on the first lap. During lap two, I got things under control, had a really strong mile 2 and a good mile 3. Was able to throw down a strong sprint at the end and passed another couple of people on the way to the finish line. What would you do differently?: Keep working on my run. It's continuing to get better but it still has a long way to go. This was actually my 2nd best stand-alone 5k time. Post race
Warm down: gatorade, bagel, and banana waiting for more of the Queen City crew to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: ME--but especially my poor swim conditioning for this race Event comments: Enjoyed the smaller race, but our swim wave was huge. Probably half of the 300 racers were in my wave, out of the 4 total. Last updated: 2007-02-15 12:00 AM

Got up at 5am. Had a bagel and peanut butter on the way out to the race. Set up my transition, walked around and found everyone. Had a gel right before the swim start
Walked about 2 miles going back and forth to the truck and then walking around to the swim start.
