Swim
Comments: It was fun to kick off the WI season (after IMCA 70.3) I have been itching to race, but also building alot. So when I got in the pool, I was focused. I knew the guy ahead of me wasa 8:30 swim and after was 8:50. I was about 8:45 from previous swim times. He went, then me. At about 200 I caught him, he noticed and we split at the turn. I powered past him and almost knocked heads with guy #3 (who had a tendency to swim in the middle of the lane). I kept a consistent pace - felt real good and just went with it. Last year I would do the 400-500 swim and look like I was going to die coming out of the water, I did not feel that today. Just pushed through the whole swim section. Hopped out and grabbed my stuff on the side o start drying. What would you do differently?: Lay out stuff on side a bit better, otherwise the swim ROCKED! Definitely my best showing to date. Transition 1
Comments: Ran out the door of the swim building and was trying to get shirt on while running, was hard but did dry leg enough to get my knee brace on quickly. Boom boom boom - helmet, glasses, knee brace go! I have been practicing the shoe entry while riding. It hit a snag again. In Cali, the right shoe popped off, today, the insole got stuck on the foot. Stopped and took shoe off fixed insole, and slid right foot in. Clicked and went. Slipped left foot in over the next 10 secs and off I went. I tried to get Garmin on, but too hard while moving, so left in bento box for the ride. Also, lost a GU when futzin with the garmin, but did have another already taped to the bar. What would you do differently?: Nothing, just get that darn foot in the way I have before - maybe a lil baby powder would have helped. But still real qquick and first time not using socks at all. Bike
Comments: Fun ride - do not remember much of it - or may be all of it. It was farm field and field. The wind went west to east - which was about 4 miles of the course. The rest was headwind and crosswind. This made pushing it harder for 2/3's of the time. I just kept telling myself - GO GO GO! Do not let up. So I pusshed through. I wonder if I could have gone faster if I did not have a 3hour/53 mile ride on Friday and a 1h45m foot excursion yesterday? WE will never know. What would you do differently?: Get that foot in - it still is bothering me. If I really was more serious about doing well actually taper a little and not do almost 5 hours of training the two days before - but this was a B race - also the sprint of my cycle. Up next the OLY Transition 2
Comments: Real fast for having to put my shoes on. This is the first sprint I did not wear running shoes while biking. So I was pretty happy with my super quick switch to the runners. It went real well. Both transitions were clumped in with the bike/T1 and Run/T@ - so these are based off my Garmin times which I started as soon as i got onn the bike and as soon as I started running. What would you do differently?: Nothing this went real well. Run
Comments: 90% on trail. It was a fun but quite up and down winding trail. I would have been faster on the flat pavement. BUT - everyone ran it so it was enven for all. I also had nothing left at this point. I could not push it like I wanted. BUT I did run negative splits - mile 1> 9:46, mile 2> 9:24, mile 3 > 9:02 and last .28 miles 8:00m/m. Again, not great ,not bad, but I know I could have been so much better. still sub 9:30 so i am happy What would you do differently?: Nothing for my plan - I wanted to go hard on the swim and bike and try to get through the run reasonably. just never thought my HR would be so high Z5 for 22 mins, avg 170 and MAX 183. I'll take it Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit, got the car packed up and ate tons o carbs and drank a bit. Nothing spectacular, just ate and drank, lil stretchin. we sat around for awards. I met muktownman , Cliff, there. It was nice to see another BT'r and Dentist. Yes we are everywhere. We sat through the entire awards and they almost forgot the relays and clydes/athenas. Got grreat pic's today thanks to travisvb24. Always does a fab job. And bonus, everyone left before the raffle, we won, by default, RoadID gift certificates. What limited your ability to perform faster: Knees and training. Of course, this relates to my building for September, so I was trained well, just did not have a lot in tank after all the builds this weekend. The only rest I had was the swim - swam last on Thurs. doing drills, nothing hard. Event comments: Really enjoyed today, great weatehr and nice place to start the season. Wonder what I could have done if trained differently. Hmmmm! Anyway - great time, great friends, go Donkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 eeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Overall in male division: 53/146 Males swim 45 bike 37 run 76 Last updated: 2007-02-16 12:00 AM

Prediction (I believe transitions are in the bike and run)
500yd swim - 8:47
13.7mi bike- 43:17
3.1 mi run - 27:47
Total - 1:19:55
I was close - just kinda lost it on the run. Really out of gas there.
As for prerace - we left home bout 9:30 and arrived about 10:30. My wave started about 12:20. So I lesurely set up and decided on different plans for transition. I walked around and cheered on szbilicki - the rocket! Read her report you will know.
I also took endurolytes before we left home and again when we arrived - no pickle juice today!
I took TORCH pre swim warmup.First time I actually warmed up for a swim - I swam for 5 mins real easy. Then Gu'd. I just watched a wave and of we went. . .
