Overall Rank = 350/499
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 26/42
Pre-race routine:

Eat protein bars, set up transition, stretch, sunscreen, walk to swim start to preview
Event warmup:

light swim and stretching
Swim
  • 23m 25s
  • 1056 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

seemed to have trouble not pulling to the right away from the bouys. found myself on the outside of the swim and away from the pack most of the time so I lost time by lengthening the course. I also had a minor cramp in my left calf at the end of the swim when I tried to stop abruptly to keep from running over a slower swimmer that I didn't see until it was almost too late. The cramp left in about 30-45 sec and didn't return.
What would you do differently?:

better sighting - gotta practice that
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

had a 300 ft run from water to T1 and a fresh water shower to rinse off the salt.
Bike
  • 1h 45m 48s
  • 28 miles
  • 15.88 mile/hr
Comments:

the headwind on the way out was tough - 10-15 mph made it a bit difficult to get up to speed and/or maintain it. I was averaging well below what I wanted at the turn. But the tailwind on the way back was fun! I made up a lot of my time on the 2nd half of the course.
What would you do differently?:

I needed chamois cream for this longer ride. I ended up with a saddle sore (not too bad). More interval training and general speed work would help.
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Had some trouble getting my shoes on and completing this transition. Took longer than I wanted.
What would you do differently?:

go faster!
Run
  • 1h 09m 8s
  • 6.5 miles
  • 10m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Took it nice and easy out of transition and settled in very well. Felt great until the last two miles and then it was basically willpower from there.
What would you do differently?:

keep on training to improve my time.
Post race
Warm down:

walking and stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of experience and training - need to continue to lose weight

Event comments:

This was a great step up for me - my first oly distance. Fabulous venue. Only a few minor difficulties in the organaization of the race (extra tickets, etc.), but I would do this race again in a heart beat. I had a blast and can't wait to improve on my time next year!
