Swim
Comments: I have trouble sighting and I apparently don't swim really straight so I zig-zagged too much. What would you do differently?: Swim more, work on sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Not dizzy at all after the swim so I was able to run to transition. Way way too slow. Had a little trouble with my socks. I've tried no socks a couple of times in training but I just don't like it. What would you do differently?: Maybe baby powder in my socks. Hurry a little, you know, like it's a race or something. Bike
Comments: Very happy with the bike. Second lap was better than the first. I would have liked a third lap because it takes me 5 or 10 miles to really get into a good groove on the bike. It was a little crowded in some parts which made passing difficult for me so that slowed me down a little. This is by far my best ever bike pace in a race so I'm really happy. Riding lots works well. What would you do differently?: I should be a little more aggressive passing, and I could have pushed a little harder because my legs felt fine for the run. I really need to work on transitions. Transition 2
Comments: Slow slow slow. What would you do differently?: Go faster? I think I will try some Yankz before the next race. Run
Comments: Legs felt great coming off the bike. I would have liked some hills because that's what I'm used to and I usually pass some people (not fast people, just my fellow BOPers) on hills. A guy started to pass me about 100 yards from the finish, but I was able to "sprint" and hold him off. What would you do differently?: I should have pushed harder because I had way too much in the tank at the end. Post race
Warm down: Walked and drank a lot of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not really fast, and I should have a little more confidence in my ability and push myself harder. Event comments: Really a great race. Organized and on time, good giveaways, and a nice shirt. I hope to do this race again next year. Last updated: 2007-02-17 12:00 AM

6:30 AM start, and 1.5 hour drive to race, so up at 3:30 and left home at 4AM. Between 18 yo daughter staying out late and Mets game going 17 innings I didn't get to bed until after midnight, so not much sleep. Protein shake about 2 hours before start, and since it was fairly warm, plenty of water with added electrolytes up until the start.
A little running and walking. Also, the swim start was a probably a quarter of a mile from transition, so walking with the wet suit on a warm morning was a bit of a warmup.
