Pre-race routine:

Had a piece of whole grain toast with natural peanut butter, a banana, and hot tea around 6:15 a.m. The directions to the race were bad and we got lost, but luckily still made it by around 7:30. I think the same thing happened last year. For some reason mapping websites can't make sense of the address.
Event warmup:

Jogged over to the packet pick-up and did some light stretching.

Comments:

I started out further back than I should have and had to weave around a lot of people. I was surprised to run a sub-7 split for the first mile. My legs were pretty cold, so I don't think I realized I was going out that fast, but I'm glad I did since it set the pace for the rest of the run. After the hill ended around 4.25 I pushed the pace a little, but I think I could have pushed a little harder. I also think I could have kicked the last 1/2 mile a little harder, but a 6:40 6th mile isn't to shabby. My time last year was 46:50 and that was a PR. I can't be upset about smashing my PR by 2 1/2 minutes! However, I wasn't that incredibly tired at the end of the race, so I think I can still do a lot better. Who knows, maybe next year I can break 42 and get seeded in the 1A time group for the Peachtree!
What would you do differently?:

Start out a little closer to the front of the pack so I don't have to weave around so many people. Start my kick a little earlier...maybe just after the 5 mile marker.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed two bottles of water and jumped on the bus to be shuttled back to the race start. Got off the bus and jogged back to the car to grab my jacket. Ate a few cookies and half a banana. Darn, no free Bruster's ice cream this year :( Didn't stretch until I got home...shame on me!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Confidence!!! I'm still surprised that I can perform at the level that I'm performing, so I don't push myself as hard as I can. I'm too worried about pushing too hard early on in the race. But then I end up feeling like I didn't give it all I had. And I'm still shy about lining up towards the front of the pack, like I don't "deserve" to be up there. But judging by how many people I pass in the first half mile, it's about time I push my way a little closer to the front.

Event comments:

The course is very easy.....but that's why everyone loves it! Good race!
