Pre-race routine:

Early start. Up at 0315. Made blueberry pancakes. Ate apple on way to race, Clif Bar 1 hour prior, and 1 shot of gel 15 min prior to start.
Event warmup:

Stretching
Swim
  • 41m 13s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

If I could only swim straight. I think I could swim all day, but not for 20 seconds straight. Stayed well outside the line. I was in wave 2 of 7 so I did not want to get swam over by all the other waves. Really didn't feel as slow as my time, but this is what not getting to the pool gets me.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more and work on sighting.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Not bad for me. Road was a little rough on the bare feet. Took 1 shot of gel.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to jump mount bike.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 5s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode hard. The bike is my favorite. Plenty of people to pass after my slow swim.
What would you do differently?:

Work on cornering and ride the course beforehand to know the corners better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Again, not bad. Swapped gel flasks.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, practice.
Run
  • 53m 59s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good run for me. I don't think I negative split this, but both halves were probably real close in time.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks, shorter more intense runs.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, walked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough time in the pool, may look for a swim coach this winter. I'm pretty happy with my bike for now, until I can upgrade equipment. My running is still improving, I've never been a runner so as long as I keep improving, I'm good with it.

Event comments:

Wow!! So many volunteers. If you went thirsty on the run, it was your own fault, there must have been a drink station every 1/2 half mile. Very organized event. Great race site.
