Overall Rank = 457/669
Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 27/46
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast (yogurt smoothie, banana, protein bar), set up transition, drink gatorade, bathroom, stretching, preview course, chat with friends
Event warmup:

light stretching, walk/jog
Swim
  • 29m 52s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like this was a pretty strong swim for me, but it was a bit crowded, particularly at the end
What would you do differently?:

nothing much - I felt good about this
Transition 1
  • 03m 53s
Comments:

This was a bit of a long run from the swim into transition, and then out of transition to the mount line. I felt pretty good about my efficiency overall, though I don't run very quickly in my biking shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - this went about as smoothly as possible given the conditions
Bike
  • 1h 26m 3s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.33 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt pretty good about my preparation for this course. My progress up that bigger hill got a little slower with every loop and I felt pretty tired at the end of it. I intended to take a Gu packet before the third loop but I dropped it while I was trying to open it - bummer! I obviously have some work to do on my bike in the off-season, but this was a good step up for me from previous races.
What would you do differently?:

I need more time in the saddle and I need to continue working on my hills for speed. I'm thinking it's time to get back out on the 360 loop for some serious hill and distance work.
Transition 2
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

I had a bit of a run coming back in to transition from the dismount line, but not as long as on the way out. I lost a few seconds trying to locate my spot on the rack, but otherwise, this went pretty smoothly. I took a Gu packet immediately to make up for the one that I lost on the bike, grabbed my water bottle and headed out for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Have a clearer landmark for my spot on the rack. Otherwise, this wasn't bad at all for me.
Run
  • 59m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt pretty strong through the run. My right calf started talking to me at the beginning, but as I got my legs under me, it got more comfortable. I took a Gu packet at the end of the first loop and continued strong through the course. I bumped up my speed a bit for the last half-mile into the finish. This was as confident a run as I've ever had, particularly for the distance.
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing - this was a fantastic run for me - over a minute per mile faster than my last oly.
Post race
Warm down:

walking, streching, cheering for everyone else as they crossed the finish line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to begin focusing more on my bike. For the first time, my run was higher ranked than my bike. Time to get faster there!

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race. Without all of the thoughtful planning and the fabulous volunteers, this would have been easy to be a dud. Jack and Adams did a great job, the volunteers were enthusiastic and supportive, and the race was very well run. There were some really great athletes out there - a pretty competitive field! I'm looking forward to doing this again next year.
