Swim
Comments: The water was pretty cold, but no waves :). The waterlevel was also very low so some folks waded out the first hundred meters. Once I got going the swim went well. Had some trouble navigating and probably added about 100m to the swim. I came out second from the water way behind Didier Brocard from the Swiss National Triathlon Team. It was kind of cool to hear my name over the loudspeaker as I entered T1. What would you do differently?: Not much. Need to keep woking on my sighting. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time to simulate exactly what I will be doing in the Antwerp HIM T1. I put on socks. I entered T1 in second place but left in fourth just behind two other guys. Bike
Comments: This was a unique race as drafting was permitted. As I was one of the first ones on the course I started off all alone. I was mainting a good pace (for me) of 34/35kph. I got passed a number of time by groups of riders, drafting off each other and working together. They were moving at 40 to 42km. In a couple of instance I tried to join in, but did not have the power to stick with them as they passed me. All in all, I was pleased with my bike performance. I still have some work to do if I am going to keep the same pace in Antwerp. Interestingly, there was no water, gel or bars provided during the bike - fortunatly I had planned on being self sufficient. Transition 2
Comments: Dismounted with room to spare as I approached the transition area. racked my bike. Stretched out my quads and then headed off on the run with a goal of trying to catch as many of the people that passed me on the bike. Run
Comments: The run felt good and I could have held the pace for another 5+km - which is nice to know with the HIM in 5 weeks. Post race
Warm down: Some streatching while I was waiting for my friend to finish. Avg HR for the entire race was 151. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to spend more time on the bike. Event comments: This was a well run casual race. The drafting thing was a first for me, but assuming that I am still in Switzerland I will be back next year. Last updated: 2007-02-23 12:00 AM

The race started at 0930 and was only an hour away. I picked up a friend at 0645 and headed up to the race site on Lac Neuchatel. We got to the site early and landed a parking spot not far from the transition area. The race was serving as the National Championships (Sprint distance) for the Swiss Police. However, the turnout for the Olympic distance was low because the race officials were not able to list the race on datasport.ch where everyone goes to register for any race in Switzerland. Also, the race was on the same day as Ironman Switzerland being held in Zurich. The end result was a very low-key, but well organized affair. A side note - I had just returned from a business to Dubai and Kuwait the proceeding days and had some how managed to pick up a 'bug' that was giving me some GI issues. Had to use the porta-potty 4 times in the run up to the race. Fortunatly, the pepto tables kicked in and I just managed to make it through the race.
