Run
Comments: The run was hotter than accustomed, yet that was just because of the time of year and the unusual hot conditions. Probably drank a little bit too much water but under the conditions I was trying to keep cool and keep moving. What would you do differently?: Definitely drive the course before the event if at all possible. That way have a better feel for what is coming. Would have a better pacing plan and try to not get so caught up in the slower runners. Because the first 5-6 miles I was constantly Post race
Warm down: Walk - walk - walk and stretching... Under the conditions I felt after the race would not have wanted to do a cool down run. Tried to keep taking in fluids and ate a small amount of food that was avaiable after the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of knowledge of the course... This was my first 1/2 marathon and I did not gauge my pace very well in the first half of the race. Because of going to hard at the first I had to walk limited amounts in the last 3 miles. I was just happy to still be able to finish under my goal of 2 hours after these happenings. Event comments: Overall the race was run exceptionally... Two minor things that would have been helpful to runners. 1. It was difficult to guage pace in the half-marathon. The large mile marker signs at each mile were great. But once the full marathon course joined back to the half-marathon course it got hard to calculate mileage and times without having to think about it. The suggestion would be to have signage listing each race distance. 2. The CliffShot station along the course was awesome. The problem was gels are normally taken with water. From picking up the gel until the next water station I ran approx 2 miles. Please take these comments constructively. I thought the race was very well organized overall and it was a very enjoyable experience. Definitely plan to return. Last updated: 2007-02-24 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:15am and stirred around for a few minutes. Ate peanut butter sandwich, performance cookie and drink water on the way to the race. Left Lee's house at 4:50am to make way to Chamblee Marta Station.
Finding Chamblee Marta Station was not quite as easy as we would have liked it to be. We thought it would be very close to the exit off I-85. Yet it was three or four miles off the interstate. We missed the train that we had hoped to catch as it was arriving at the station at the same time we were pulling into the parking lot. Yet that was not a huge concern because we had built some time into our travel plan for if this was to occur.
The ride on Marta was nice and stress free in the fact that we were not going to have to look for parking once we entered the downtown area. As we continued on toward Five Pts. station each stop brought more and more race participants that had the same idea of riding Marta as we did.
Leaving Midtown station and train is near capacity as we continue to what will be our last stop on Marta. We enter Peachtree Center Station and a few of the guys around us discuss and get off and using the walk/jog from Peachtree Station to the staging area. At this time more people enter the train and it is too full to imagine. This brings about the issue that the train doors cannot close poperly making it where the train will not run until the issues are resolved. This goes on for 3-5 mins until enough patrons including Katy and myself decide the best action is to also get off the train and hoof it to the staging area.
Bag drop was well organized and easy to perform... Probably need to plan on doing bodyglide before the last second but it was affective for the most part. After dropping bag at UPS bag drop went to Porta-Potty Ally which at the time was nice to see there were well over 100 of them. So we started searching for the shortest line.
After Porta-Potty session continued toward start line. Ended up being one turn and about two-and-a-half blocks away from the start line at the beginning of the race. Talked did some limited stretching and just relaxed until it was time to go.
The gun went off... Well we assume it did when the crowd began to cheer about 3 minutes after 7am. But we did not move for another 7-8 mins. Finally we began our walk toward the start line. I crossed the start line over 12mins after the offical start of the race and it was at a jogging pace.
I would say the warm-up would be all the walking and getting situated for the race all leading up to the start line...
