Swim
Comments: I was relieved that I had gotten in to the lake the day before, as I had to learn how to work around not being able to see or swim in a straight line. I focused on seeing my hands in front of/below me to keep me calm. Swam off course a couple of times, but felt really good about the swim given it was my first tri. Had some problems with new goggles and sighting. Right hand was falling asleep. What would you do differently?: I'd like to swim in a lake once a week during the summer months in addition to continuing pool training. I'll work on sighting without breaking my breathing/arm rythm. Transition 1
Comments: I ended up walking/jogging on the right side of my bike. . . needed to be on left side. Didn't hypdrate in transition and should have. What would you do differently?: Focus on staying on the left side of bike and drink water!!! Bike
Comments: We had a fairly steep hill just outside of the transition area that kicked my butt. I was hoping that was the only hill, but there were more and they were worse! I felt ok the first lap and was proud of myself for staying on the bike the entire time. I had some chaffing on my leg from rubbing against the seat lever, but other than that, no injuries. I was starting to get a headache and had to stop and walk a hill on the 2nd lap and the volunteers MADE me drink water, that helped. I also had some problems gearing on hills. Right hand was falling asleep. What would you do differently?: Keep training. Learn how to drink from a water bottle while riding or buy a hydration pack. Transition 2
Comments: Drank more water and gathered snacks. Didn't need to change shoes, just grab my visor and head out. What would you do differently?: I need to rearrange my transition area. Run
Comments: Had to walk all but last 1/4 mile. Needed to keep drinking water and eating snacks. Stretched out hamstring cramp on walk. What would you do differently?: Try running more. Post race
Warm down: Drank more water and had bagel, orange, and more jellie beans. Stood around watching other women finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am happy with my time. . . but my next tri I will: 1) know how to sight better, swim in more of a straight line, and feel even more comfortable in a lake 2) hydrate and snack during bike 3) learn how to gear on hills 4) train more on hills 5) run more Event comments: I strongly recommend the Danskin to any women attempting her first tri! None. Had the option to do a swim warmup, but only went in part way to get used to the water temp.
