Swim
Comments: Great swim for me, I felt faster, and stronger than before, so swimming with the masters program is paying off...a lot faster than HOT (my only other Olympic)...ran into people all over the place (I'm fine with that at this point though which is good), some older woman was swimming perpendicular to everyone else, and I literally crawled over her...I stayed close to the buoys the whole time, but probably spotted too much:) What would you do differently?: Spot less, trust myself more, not swallow so much water, not get kicked and punched so much... Transition 1
Comments: I took my time, almost fell over getting out of the water...ate a Jolly Rancher to get the salt water out of my mouth (per Q's suggestion:)) - THANK YOU!! It felt GREAT!! What would you do differently?: I was ok with this, I felt like I needed to take my time, and I did... Bike
Comments: I started out great, but the head wind really slowed me down...I went by a BT girl when I was going fast at the start, but she ended up kicking my butt (YEAH!! - sorry I forgot your name)...I really focused on staying positive, thanking the police officers, talking and cheering on the other racers...I had fun though, went back and forth with a few other girls...some parts were very bumpy, and a lot of the TNT guys flew by me (I got a lot of "on your left"...but it was great for me...the last 4 miles into the wind wasn't that fun...but this was just so much better than Wildman, I can really appreciate it now more than I could before... What would you do differently?: Get stronger at riding into the wind...but I really improved over my HOT time, and felt that I was well prepared for this part, so that was great... Transition 2
Comments: Took my time, last four miles were into the wind, and last mile or so was on cobblestone...had to make sure I could walk:) What would you do differently?: I think it was good to take my time... Run
Comments: This was very difficult...I started running right around 11am, so the sun was up very high in the sky, and it was increidbly hot...but I had angels with me, and I do not say that lightly...it was incredible!! First was Matt, he ran the WHOLE THING with me (he finished his about an hour before I started my run)...and he was there to cheer me on...at about 1.5 mi, I met up with some guy who was running it again, just to cheer on and support people who looked like they needed it...he was incredible, told me not to run in the drainage ditch, gave me suggestions on running form, and encouraged me to run all the way to mile 2...then he branched off to help other people, and then we met up with this girl Mary from Georgia - it was her first Olympic, and her husband had also run it...she asked if she could run with me and I wasw THRILLED - since now I couldn't get away with complaining to Matt as much as I would have otherwise...we ran/walked the rest of the race, and we really ran a lot more than we walked...it was WONDERFUL (I get teary thinking about it) having her and Matt there, they were so positive and it made me positive, it made me want to do better, even with the weather conditions...we sprinted (if you can call it that) at mile 6, and she ended up beating me by about 7 seconds...we hugged afterward...this is what it is all about and it was incredibly awesome, wonderful, best ever!! What would you do differently?: I can't imagine doing that run without my three angels...so I'd have to say nothing...eventually I'd like to get faster, but for what this is, it was amazing!! Post race
Warm down: None, cold rag when we got to the finish line, waited in line to get our bike checked out... What limited your ability to perform faster: I dont run well, but I'm not complaining about that... Event comments: I had a great race - wish I could have stayed, but everyone was tired and wanted to head home - next year we will celebrate with the BT crowd:) But - it was a great race!! Woke up at 2am, cause I was nervous...tried to sleep until about 3:30am, then gave up, watched a bit of tv until 5am...had to get everyone out of the hotel (as Kendall said with his family, I must agree...it is like herding cats!)...finally got out at around 6am, luckily we weren't far from St. Pete...but far enough, parked at the parking garage, Matt had to RUNNNNNN!! to transition, I was taking my time, since I didn't start until 8:45, but then right as we were getting close to transition, I heard that transition was closing for everyone at 6:50!! (and it was currently 6:40!)...I ran to transition, but had to be body-marked first...so ran to body marking...got into transition with about 7 minutes left, found matt, got my stuff, set up...told matt to run to the swim start which was 3/4 mile away, then as I was finishing, realized that I had his goggles in my bag, YIKES!! So, I ran down toward the beach, found him half-way (he was looking for me since he realized that he had forgotten his goggles)...got there, but he needed his timing chip, and was freaking out, so got that as the first wave was going off (he was in the third wave)...got it on, and got him down there right as his wave was lining up at the starting line (it was a bit stressful)...but he got out...then I had an hour and a half to get my timing chip - mad chaos is how to describe that one...and get ready to go
Sat by myself with my eyes closed for a while, talked to some of the BT girls...put a toe in the water, decided not to do much else...
