Swim
Comments: Really happy, went well drafted well, was as quick as i thought and it was enjoyable, not too hard, just steady and consistent effort. What would you do differently?: Not much, would try and be a bit smoother in the water but keep it nice and relaxed and easy. Transition 1
Comments: Good transistion, governed pace by others in front due to 400m run up to T1, was good though relaxed and not too hard before the bike start. Got clothes off well, just shirt, then socks and shoes and arm warmers as leaving tent. HR was 165 avg here finishing on 162 so quite high, with hill at end of run was hard. What would you do differently?: run transistion faster and have all gear ready to rock after have removed wetsuit, ie race clothes on under, not just cycle shorts. Bike
Comments: Nice and easy had to hold myself back the whole time as felt really good, but wanted to save it for second half of run, which was a good idea as was happy with that run. What would you do differently?: a little bit faster now i know my pace was okay but not much faster only 15 or 20mins as too much more and i would really struggle. Transition 2
Comments: Fast, only forgot to get race belt with number off before took of shorts but that was about 20secs worth and of no consequence overall. HR 156 avg, so was quite intense and quick. Didn't feel rushed though which was good. Run
Comments: felt great for whole of run except from 20 to 28km, didn't eat enought solid food as really hot and so once got three bananas into me was great, came good and had coke, water and gel for second half of second lap. What would you do differently?: eat some more solid food after bike as struggled in centre but came right so maybe a powerbar or similar at 0, 5, 10 and 21km then fluid for rest. Overall really happy. Post race
Warm down: collapse! What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing really, was really happy with performance and for first time, couldn't of asked for much more. Event comments: Great day, twice as good as i thought, utterly unbeleivable, great fantastic, it is the most inspirational and motivating event i have ever participated in and everyone was fantastic, the supporters, volunteers, crowd, my family and support, utterly unbelievable. Reviewing HR data, spent 7h 40'36" in Zone 1, 1h45'56" below Zone 1 and 59'07" above Zone 1. Zone 1 is HR of 150 to 165. so sounds good, most of the above 165 was on the bike and swim which is good. Up at 5am for breakfast and get ready for race day. Bike, helmet, transition bags already in T1 and T2 so only special needs and starting clothes required as well as clothes to change into after the event.
No real warm up just a bit of a swim in the water before the gun went.
