Pre-race routine:

We spent the night at my parents, so when we got up, the boys got to keep sleeping. The alarm went off at 5:00 am. I got up, got dressed, and we got in the car. We stopped at the grocery store to grab Andy a Mountain Dew, since we had only slept 3 hours!!! Ah.....the joys of an almost 2 yr old.

We had gone to bed by 11:00...which was later than I wanted to go to bed, but my cousins had come by, and we didn't want to be rude. At about 2:15, Houston started screaming. We let him cry for a few minutes, thinking he would go back to sleep. He didn't. Andy went in the room to see what was wrong, and of course I couldn't let my baby cry and me not be there. I got up to see what his problem was, and he wanted me to hold him. I realized he had a tooth coming through, so I held him and rubbed his gums until he relaxed enough to go back to sleep. We put him back in bed about 4:15, and I went to sleep until the alarm went off at 5:00.
Event warmup:

When we got there at about 6:00, the temperature was perfect, but the wind was crazy. I picked up my packet, and we walked through the Expo. It was a small expo, but I found some great deals. I bought a couple of pairs of shorts and a shirt, then sat down to relax for a few minutes. About 7:00 I started stretching. We met some friends that were running the race too, and I got in line with them. I was a little nervous, but I was feeling pretty good.

Comments:

I was nervous at the beginning because this was the first time I ran a race with my heart rate. I started out running the first 5 miles in Zone 2, then moved up to Zone 3 the second 5 miles. I ran in Zone 4+++ for the last 5K. I felt great during mile 6-10. I couldn't believe I was running 11:30--12:30 minute miles. I really like running like this. It really helped me on the last few miles. I actually finished feeling strong.
What would you do differently?:

I would have started off with my radio on my back. I had to move it during mile 2 or 3 because it kept moving, and wouldn't you know it....I accidently stopped my Garmin. If I had known my exact time, I'm pretty sure I could have PR'd....oh well.
Post race
Warm down:

Andy met me at the finish line. I grabbed a bottle of water and we headed to the food tent. I got a banana and another bottle of water, and we headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably the fact that I had only slept 3 hours, and the fact that I didn't know my exact time because I messed up my Garmin.

Event comments:

I really had a great time at this race. I can't beleive how well I did by myself. I have only had one other race where I did better, but that was with Andy pulling me. I felt so much better than that race though....I am now a big believer in running by my heart rate.

Course: Pretty hilly course. The beginning was a little tricky because it was wet from the rain, but it was a really good course.
