Run
Comments: I knew immediately I would finish (this was my first 1/2). I felt good and knew I had enough training. Running the 12 miles two weeks ago really bolstered my confidence. I felt great. I took in three shot bloks at mile 3 and at mile 9. The first 8 miles went by so fast, I was just enjoying the marathon atmosphere and goofing around with people on the course. Just happy to be running and glad the weather was so nice. Great tunes on my iPod, great thoughts in my head. At mile 10 I got HOT. So I took off my jacket and my hat. The last three miles seemed really hard, I was getting a bit frustrated because I wanted to not feel bad. But I just tried to keep focused on the good stuff. And when I really starting to struggle I got to pass Doug coming the other way with the marathoners and we had a smile and a high five. That really helped me finish...um strong isn't the word...but um...happy! Yeah, that's the word...happy! The final stretch was along the boardwalk and it looked so far. I was ready to be done. But I finished and was quite proud of myself and my medal. Two years ago I couldn't run two blocks. I needed a new challenge and this was just the thing. What would you do differently?: I had pottie issues throughout the race. This slowed my time and frustrated me to have to keep stopping. I don't think it was my nutrition, I just think that I was out of my normal routine and this kind of threw my system off. My system decided to turn back on at mile 2 and kept pestering me for the rest of the race (and the day!). My running times were good...solid 11-12 minute miles throughout. If I hadn't had bathroom issues, I would have easily run a 2:40-2:45. So I am happy with my performance. Yippee! Post race
Warm down: Stew is GOOD! I made my way to the nice warm tent and had two beers and some Irish Stew. Yummy. I was too tired to really enjoy the post-race, I wanted to get changed and watch Doug finish so I got my stuff out of the car and searched out a warm cup of coffee. I didn't stretch, which I am regretting now, as my quads and calves are SORE as heck. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pottie issues. Event comments: It was great to do something I never had before. I had to push myself and I love that. The older I get and the more races I do, I am convinced I am an endurance athlete. I can keep the same pace whether I am doing a 5k or running 13 miles. I also loved doing the race with Doug. He helped so much with my training, running advice, and keeping me smiling. I can't wait to do another one! Last updated: 2007-02-25 12:00 AM

We went out for dinner the night before and met Sue, Jen and their spouses...nice to meet more BTers. Then we headed back and set out race stuff ...got up early and ate a cliff bar, coffee and water.
Doug and I stayed in the car for a bit to keep warm and then found my way to the right corral. I wanted to go to the port-a-pottie, but the lines were way too long...decided to wait. Doug stayed with me until the race started and then he went back to the car until his race start. Everything started on time...I was barely nervous...more excited than anything.
