Pre-race routine:

Up at 6 and had a bagel and a bagette. Then I realized I don't have a wet suit and Handlebars isn't going to be there to sell me one. After I get to the race I realize nobody is renting or selling them.
Event warmup:

Running around trying to figure out WTF to do and how I could miss something as important as a PFD or wetsuit.
Swim
  • 16m 13s
  • 500 yards
  • 03m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

In the middle of the mass confusion that has become my life since buying this house and moving, I somehow missed the fact that Handlebars wasn't going to be there to sell me a wet suit. I can't swim. I hate cold water in my face. I was really excited about this swim till 7 am when I realized I didn't have a wet suit to keep me floating. I almost bagged the whole race till but didn't. Instead I doggie paddled 400 Yards and clung to the board for safety and a breather. I was glad to be done.
What would you do differently?:

A duathlon
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Went well. I took a few seconds to shake off the swim and mentally get ready for the race.
What would you do differently?:

I'm working on a better way on and off the bike. I lose a lot of time clipping in.
Bike
  • 46m 59s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

I got a chance to meet boyddr on the bike. I saw a few other BT's out there also. Was a solid bike for me. My goal was over 20 mph average and I fell a little short but I enjoyed the ride.
It sems lots of us averaged 19.6 mph.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster so I won't need to worry so much about having a solid bike. Also I'm going to get a set of Aero bars and a bottle so I don't have to drink from under me. Also need to water down my Accelerade some. I could taste the sugar in my beard and I was just dying for some water.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I should of done the run without socks. I practiced it with no problems. I'm not sure why I put them on. Speed laces work great.
Run
  • 25m 39s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt good off the bike. I kept a nice pace and drank at the BT water stop both ways. 3/4 off the way through I opened it up to a all out sprint. I passed 2 guys at the end. I just caught the second at the line. I felt like I was going to puke. At that time do I really look like I want a cow bell. After some water and shade I felt much better.
What would you do differently?:

More speed work. I want to settle into my easy run training rythem.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink and shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim. 5 minutes off the swim does wonders for my overall. Thats should be easy ........ next year

Event comments:

Wonderful race but likely my last tri this year. I really need to work on my swim this winter. I'm going to race a 8k/58k/8k Du this year so swimming is going to have to wait. ITU was sweet. Nice touch to the weekend.
