Swim
Comments: I was very nervous about this swim. I estimated my time at 5:30 but I have never actually swum that fast. I knew I would be within the 20 seconds buffer, but I was nervous never the less. The woman behind me was catching me fast, and I thought she would pass me on the 3rd lap, but suddenly she stopped to rest, so I was never passed. The reported times include part of a transition so I don't actually know my swim time. What would you do differently?: Stupid mistake of the day! The pool is similar to the pool at my local Y, except the deep end and shallow ends are reversed. I didn't notice that. I assumed we were jumping in the deep end. Duh. That threw me off as I hit the bottom a lot sooner than I expected! Other than that, I felt I swam at my pace. My breathing was OK, and I think I was the same speed throughout. Transition 1
Comments: The timing is hard to figure out. They didn't split out transition times. Bike
Comments: I loved this course. I passed skads of people and was only passed by one male. I passed one woman and then she quickly repassed me on a hill. I told myself "no one passes ME on a hill" and I smoked her down the other side and never saw her again. I needed that kick in the pants. Overall I was 80th on the bike leg, but I was 18th out of 138 woman. I know I can do better with the equipment I have. I think I could cut 2 minutes from my bike segment. What would you do differently?: As I started the last lap of the Neck, I miscalculated a pass. A much-slower woman on a mtn bike was going into the tight turn wide, so I assume she would finish tight, I was coming up fast so I took an inside line figuring I go wide, but she fooled me and went wide through the whole turn. I had to brake a little so I lost some momemtum. But really, that maybe cost me 2 seconds. Other than that, I was quite happy with my ride. I finished in top third of all racers. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I don't think I pushed hard enough early enough. I had a little stomach cramping around mile 2, but just kept going. I didn't get passed by anyone and passed maybe 5 people. In the last mile, I could see a woman ahead of me. I could tell I was faster than her but didn't think I had enough time to catch her. I started pushing harder but knew at that pace I wouldn't have much left for a sprint. I passed her with a 1/4 mile to go. I held her off. That made me feel good. What would you do differently?: Push a harder in the half of the race. I think I ran the last half at a better pace. I think I could have cut a minute from my run time. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Looked for other BT'ers but didn't see anyone. I had written BT on my left shoulder. Tons of people asked me what the initials were for, but no one was from BT. Event comments: A fun race for the early season! I was totally exhilerated after I finished. I felt like I could go around again! I was 106th overall, but 30th out of 138 women. I think I could cut 2 min. from bike leg and 1 from run. So when I look at the results and cut 3 minutes from my time, I would move from 106th overall to 76th place. That is a big difference! Oh, the usual panic! I forgot my race belt, where is my water, I have to pee etc etc.
There was a long wait for the swim - so I jumped around to raise my HR a bit before starting the swim.
