Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15 and had some coffee. Made it to the venue at 6:30 and set up. No food since it was just a sprint.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Met up with some peeps I know and hung out with them for a bit.
Swim
  • 10m 47s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

At first I thought that I was 9 kinds of slow until I realized that the swim time included the .2 mile run through the sand to the transition area. My HR was spiked out of the water as usual so the sand run was run/walk. I am officially OVER the OWS panic thing I had last season. Now it's just a swim. With this in mind, I did not wait and start after everyone was off. Instead, I jumped in and started with the pack. Lots of arms and feet for most of the swim which was a bit frustrating at times, but prolly not as frustrating as the folks I slammed with my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Relax and work a smoother stroke.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Much better transition times today. In and out with no delays
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 33m 52s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.72 mile/hr
Comments:

About average speed. HR didn't get into my comfy zone until about 6 miles into the 10. I hate that! I hate being in zones 4 or 5 in the middle of a race.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare better; more time in the saddle.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Wam, bam, thank you ma'am. Played no games in T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 33m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

I was hoping for a better run today under 10:30 average. But I sucked it up and did my best.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Sucked down some water and hung out with some folks I knew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't train much this past month after the Florida 70.3.

Event comments:

I was hoping for sub 1:20 but considering the lack of preparation, I'm OK with the outcome. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give my perfomance a 6.5. I'm not 100% happy with today, but given my lack of training this past month, I prolly got exactly what I deserved today. Triology race #2 is in 4 weeks and I hope to be 10 pounds lighter. We'll see how that affects my time.
