Run
Comments: My heart was really racing at the start of this. The immediate uphill had a lot to do with that. The pack took off very fast, and I knew that I wasn't going to stay with them. The thought was to run a 20 minute 5k and put as much in to the bike as I could. The pace felt pretty comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised with this run. Comments: Good transition. I decided to just stay in my tri top for the bike. I was worried that it might be cool on the bike, but this turned out not to be a problem. What would you do differently?: I don't jump on the bike yet, and I put my shoes on in transition. I felt like this was fast for my current transition plan, but maybe I'll work on the flying mount. Bike
Comments: Got up to speed pretty well, and tried to really use the wind on the way out. For most of this ride I was comparing how I was doing/felt to how I did last year. Felt like I was ahead of last year, as I wasn't getting passed by as many people. Tried to keep the cadence up and legs moving. I felt pretty good for the first 10 miles. At mile 12 the long, straight, windy journey back began. At first I thought that I was doing a good job of holding a strong pace, but that slowly faded the rest of the way back. What would you do differently?: Just more time biking. I'm getting better, but I need to do more. I haven't done any speed work yet this year, but I will need to do some soon. Transition 2

Comments: Left calf was crampy starting the run. I just tried to turn the legs over until I crested the hill. Hit the mile mark at 6:07, and was surprised. Just kept the legs moving and tried to hold a strong pace the rest of the way. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: Not much. Ate the food and talked with others. Won a $100 gift certificate at the post-race giveaway! Event comments: I enjoy this race. Tough, tough competition. All of the fast athletes are here. Last updated: 2007-02-28 12:00 AM

I didn't do as much warm-up as I would've liked. I did get the bike out for a 2-mile spin to make sure it was working well, and that I was in the right gearing for the start.
Got my transition spot ready. There was a chance for rain, so I wanted to get things setup to stay relatively dry.
Did some light running and stretching prior to the start.
