Swim
Comments: I got a good start to this swim. I went out with a pretty quick turnover, and I didn't feel like I was having a problem catching my breath. I found some feet and was able to draft for awhile. They would lose me, and then I would search them out again. This was seeming like a really good idea... There was a fair amount of jostling, and I had to hold my ground and "help" others find a different route than through me. That worked pretty well. Rounded the buoy and started the return trip. For some reason, I couldn't find any feet to latch on to, and then my navigation went haywire. I didn't want to breathe to my left, as it was directly into the sun, so I was breathing on my right, and I kept pulling into the middle of the course (between the out and back buoys). I was sighting off the wrong buoys. I must've corrected myself at least 5 times, but it kept happening. So, I ended up swimming a little longer... What would you do differently?: Try to find feet for the return trip. Maybe take a couple seconds to get on course and avoid going off course so many times. Tinted goggles? Transition 1
Comments: Long transition. Had some trouble getting my wetsuit undone once out of the water. But, I had plenty of time to work on it while I was running to the rack. What would you do differently?: Not too much really. Just a long ways from lake to rack to bike start Bike
Comments: This was a pretty good ride for me. Prior to a week ago, this would've been my fastest bike split pace. So, now that it isn't, I'm left wanting more. I pushed the bike pretty well, but I did keep everything under control. There were a lot of riders to pass, and there were not any sections where you could relax. Last year at this time, I still remember getting passed more than I passed others. This year, that has changed around quite a bit. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I need to up my bike training. Transition 2
Comments: I had to pee so bad coming off the bike. So, there was about at 20 second porta-pit-stop in this transition. Run
Comments: I didn't want to start out too fast, and I just tried to get relaxed and let the turnover happen. This was a fun run for me. Didn't get passed, and caught a ton of people. I didn't think I was running this fast, because mentally I didn't have it in me to "kill myself" today. So, I'm happy with the results, and I think my run training is working. What would you do differently?: I could try to fix the mental problem of wanting to really push it. Would I have just died at mile 4 then? Not sure. Post race
Warm down: No warm-down. I grabbed some grub and relaxed. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't think anything. Event comments: I wanted to cut 5 minutes off my time from last year. I ended up cutting off 4:12. So, I didn't quite hit my goal. I thought the majority of the time I would cut on the bike, and I did. I was surprised to cut a minute off the run. That was nice.
