Pre-race routine:

Got up too early....Just messed up in my head as to when I had to get up and get going to get there etc. Had nutra-grain waffles with PB and jelly in the car on the way over and 2 Diet Cokes (Of course) I was about one of the first people there. Walked over and got my timing chip. I did this race with my Friend John. He is my Stryker arthroscopy rep. He is young...maybe 24 and this is his first post-college job. He wanted to do a race with me and wants to get into running and biking etc. He played football for Michigan State...(kicker)and this was the furtherest he has ever run. He was so funny "Oooo I get a T-shirt!!!" Yes you get a t-shirt. He did great and had a good time. Plan was a 4:1 run:walk.
Event warmup:

Not much. Walked over from the parking area, helped John with his number and timing chip. They had a bag drop which was awesome.

Comments:

This is the Bay to Bay. Point to point run across the peninsula in St. Pete. For those of you who have done St. Anthony's it finishes on the pier where St. A starts. John was real nervous because he has never run in a running race and this is the farthest he has ever run. It was chilly by Florida standards only in the 50s. We ran into the sunrise and it was real pretty. We did a 4:1 run walk the enitre way. I wasn't sure if I was killing John or holding him back. He said he liked the 4:1 and was doing fine. We held a very consistent pace the whole way. First mile was in about 10:15, we were at mile 2 in around 21 minutes etc. We were consistently under and 11 minute miles which was pretty good for a 4:1. We just chatted about stuff. Cats, football, IM, the day etc. As we got into downtown it started to get really windy. We ran down Bayshore and up the pier thru the finish.

My Hamstring did pretty well. It was real crampy in the first mile then quieted down. My left foot started to get sore the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

This was a very good run for me. If I could figure out this stupid foot thing then I could do a bit better I think.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and got some fluids and our clothing bags. Went up and got food. The post race party was up on the 5th floor of the pier and it was WINDY. It was super pretty tho and they were racing sailboats. We went back downstairs and caught a bus back to the start.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injuries. I'm glad we did the 4:1 the whole way. It worked out great for both of us.

Event comments:

It was a well run race. Everything was organized and on time. Only thing that was a pain was waiting for the buses to take us back to the start.
