Pre-race routine:

Got me and Jen packed up and off we went. the venue is about 5 miles from my house. Options for this ride are 20, 38, 62 (metric century)and 100 in which you ride the 62 then the 38. The 62 is long....esp when you miss a bunch of turns :)
Event warmup:

Jen rode my trainer bike so we made a few turns thru the parking lot to be sure everything was OK. I did this ride last year and there were about twice as many people this year. Of course it was about 30 degrees warmer this year too. Found Christine and the G8Rs, Jeff and Jess. Lost Jeff and Jess. Didn't see them til the sag stop.

Comments:

This is a nice ride thru my current home town of Plant City Florida. My hamstring has been a bugger lately and I was not sure what I might be able to do. Options in clude 20, 38, 62 (which is really a bit longer...esp with the detours I took) or 100 where you do the 62 mile course followed by the 38 mile course. Jen decided on 38 miles since she has been up in the frozen tundra all winter. I figured I could at least do 62. Found the G8Rs and Jeff and Jess. We lost Jeff and Jess after we went out to the car to get our bikes. Found Christine.

Really the first 40 to 50 miles were total biking heaven. We somehow missed the first sag stop....as did about 1/2 the people riding. Good thing Jen was having a good time and decided on 62 because we missed the 38 turnoff anyway. I knew the first stop was around mile 20 but we missed it. I averaged well over 19MPH the first hour. Missed another turn and took a little detour. Somehow when we did that Jen and Christine got in front of us and we found them at the sag stop. Bike computer read 41.77 in 2:05 for a 20.05 PMH average...darn good for me. We found everyone at the sag stop. Had the best cookies I have ever tasted and on we wwent. I hit 56 miles at 2:58 for a speed of 18.87....pretty good if I could do that in a HIM :)

If the first 50 miles were biking heaven the last 10-12 were surely biking hell. My legs were giant cramps and we had a bad head wind. I made some nutritional mistakes too. I stopped and took my socks off at one point because they are a little too big and were bunched up under my already not happy feet. A PT colleague..Matt found us and rode with me for a while. Matt is a great guy but he is a chatty cathy and I was hurting....I am so not used to riding with people and I need to do my own thing some times. He is so nice tho I just put my head down and kept pedaling. FINALLY we pulled onto Park Rd.YEAH....
What would you do differently?:

Not vary my nutrition. Not miss the first sag stop
Post race
Warm down:

put bike in car walked ( limped) to the food

What limited your ability to perform faster:

wind, nutrition, injury. This ride was much easier for me than when I did it last year

Event comments:

They had a NICE chicken and mashed potato dinner with strawberry shortcake for dessert MMMMMM Best chicken ever!!!! Last year I had to put the bike in the car and go to the hospital to do surgery

Congrats to Jen and Wendi on their longest rides EVER
