Breakfast of oatmeal, applesauce, banana, and oj. Tried to eat a powerbar on the way to the race but did not taste good. Drank some gatorade

Horrible swim, the waves were incredible. Had to stop multiple times to tread water and catch breath. Grabbed onto lifeguard board for a little while. Felt like quitting. Once turned first bouy everything was ok.
What would you do differently?:

No wetsuit. I think I swim better without.
