Swim
Comments: I just never felt like I got into a rhythm in the pool. Laurie started right before me and I hung on her feet for the first 50 meters, but after that she smoked me. I was a minute longer than I expected to be. What would you do differently?: It was disappointing because I have spent so much time in the pool lately. I think it is time I started going to a masters class. I need some help with technique. It's all well and good to swim laps and do drills myself, but if my form is bad, it's not going to get any better without anyone helping me. I am going to check into the masters this week. Transition 1
Comments: Not bad considering the fact that I put on some warm clothes. Took some extra time to dry off a little and put a long sleeve tech shirt on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Prety happy with the transition. For some reason I forgot to put my glasses on but that was the only thing I would change. Bike
Comments: I love to bike. This was the first real ride with the new race wheels. I felt great on the bike. Better than I have on the bike in a long time. The hills were no problem. The distance was a little longer than stated. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Transition 2
Comments: Got my feet out of the shoes right before the transition. I have to learn how to get off of the bike better. I still have to completely stop and get off of the bike. What would you do differently?: Learn how to dismount quicker. Run
Comments: I think I probably had the best race run ever. I felt good the entire time. I really concentrated on faster feet turnover and it helped. What would you do differently?: Just keep running more and more. Post race
Warm down: Waited very anxiously for Steve to finish. I had gotten updates from everyone who saw him on the course as to how he looked or what he said. Everyone said he was smiling everytime they saw him. I saw him twice on the course. Once when I was running and he was finishing the bike. He said he felt great and looked really happy. I saw him again when I was finishing the run and he was going out. He still looked happy. The best site was when I was him before the finish line. I noticed his hat was on backwards. That is definately his "tell". If his hat is backwards, that means he is feeling good. I think the smile on my face was almost as big as the smile on his. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just more training. For the first race of the year, I could not be happier. Event comments: Dallas Athletes always puts on a great race. He fact that the course is my backyard makes it even better. I am just so proud of Steve. He worked so hard to get to this point and I know it's only going to get better. Met up with several BT'ers for dinner Friday night. Had my ritual pre-race cheese ravioli. (thanks for the meatball Andy). Just sat around and talked and had a good time. Made two new BT friends...Danny and Jeano from Oklahoma. Got home, packed my tri bag and went to sleep.
Warm-up was kinda hard. It was COLD. Probably in the 40's when we got to transition at 6:15. They delayed the start about 45 minutes which was fine with me since it gave it some time to warm up and the sun came up.
